Important Notice About Medicaid and SNAP Benefits

In July, Congress passed a bill that will change programs run by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. President Trump signed that bill into law.

The law makes changes to Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Medicaid has not changed at this time. For some SNAP recipients, these changes will be effective between now and Nov. 1. Learn more about SNAP work requirements, how they affect SNAP benefits, and how to report that you are meeting these requirements.

Be on the lookout for more information from DHS. Keep your address and other contact information up to date with DHS and the US Postal Service. We will help you prepare for these changes as they come.

To help families navigate the college financial aid process, I’m sharing two free webinar opportunities offered by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency this September. These sessions are designed to support college-bound students and their families as they plan and pay for higher education.

Creating Your StudentAid.gov Account
Before filing the FAFSA, students and parents need to create a StudentAid.gov account. This webinar will cover who should create an account, when to do it, and how it fits into the overall financial aid process.

Searching for Scholarships
Learn how to find and apply for scholarships to reduce out-of-pocket costs. This session will explore different types of scholarships, where to find them, and tools to improve your chances of receiving aid.

Wednesday, September 24 | 12–1 p.m.

The FAFSA for the 2026–27 academic year opens on October 1, and students are encouraged to file as early as possible to be considered for grants, scholarships, and other financial aid.
