A long-overdue raise for workers
|
Someone who works hard shouldn’t be losing ground every payday. Someone who works hard should be able to afford the basic necessities – food, utilities, and a safe place to live.
For too long the billionaire special interests have kept worker pay low while prices – and profits – soar, but now there is finally some good news.
The Raise the Wage Act passed the House this week – getting every worker in the state to $12 per hour in 2028, with higher wages in the bigger population cities and counties like Bucks, and guaranteed raises based on inflation in the future.
Is it enough? No. Is it a good start and another reason for us to keep fighting for workers? Absolutely.
The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.

Opportunity for college students
|
The PA Forward Student Loan Program, offered by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency is holding a $2,500 scholarship sweepstakes—and no essay is required to enter.
Anyone who signs up to receive helpful tips on planning and paying for college between June 5 and December 15, will be automatically entered. It only takes a few minutes, and 12 winners will be selected—just in time for the upcoming fall and spring semesters.
To enter or learn more, visit: pheaa.org/ss.
This is a simple way to get valuable resources and a chance to reduce college expenses. I encourage eligible students and families to take advantage of it.

Supporting survivors of domestic abuse
|
Bucks County has been awarded a $6.1 million grant through the federal Home American Rescue Plan Program to support survivors of domestic violence. This funding will be used to renovate a currently vacant building into a new non-congregate shelter, which will include 10 individual units. The shelter will provide critical privacy, safety, and stability for individuals and families escaping dangerous situations.
Although the facility will be located outside the Bristol-Levittown area, it will serve residents from across Bucks County, including those in our community. Access to safe, supportive housing is essential for helping survivors rebuild their lives, and this project marks a meaningful step forward in ensuring that help is available when and where it’s needed.
This investment reinforces our ongoing commitment to public safety, the protection of vulnerable populations, and the expansion of critical resources for Bucks County residents.

Flushing by the Lower Bucks County Joint Municipal Authority began this past Monday. Residents and businesses in and around the affected areas may temporarily notice slight discoloration in their water during the flushing process. This typically clears up within an hour.
Please avoid using water for drinking, cooking, or doing laundry while flushing is taking place.
Flushing may be delayed depending on water availability due to recent dry weather conditions.
