As Chair of the Pennsylvania Legislative Latino Caucus, I want to take a moment to highlight Hispanic Heritage Month. This month allows us to celebrate our rich and diverse cultures, and the stories, and contributions of Latinos throughout the Commonwealth. Our community’s impact is felt in every corner of Pennsylvania, and our state is better because of you. I am honored to represent the Latino population -- and I'm so proud of how far we've come -- and know that we have much further to go. I encourage all Pennsylvanians, no matter their heritage, to attend local events, support Latino-owned businesses, share family histories, and listen to voices that have been marginalized. In doing so, we deepen not only our understanding of one another, but also our shared sense of belonging.

Policy Meeting for Expanding PTSD Treatments
|
I joined the House Policy Committee this week to discuss the destigmatization of mental health struggles. We discussed various types of breakthrough treatments and heard testimonies about the lives that these treatments have saved. If a new treatment can bring you relief, you don’t want to find government red tape in your way. We are working to make treatments ready for Pennsylvania’s communities once they are FDA approved.

My Youth Council is Now Accepting Applications
|
Did you know that your State Representative has a Youth Advisory Council dedicated to civic engagement? This dynamic group of about 10 high school students, who come from all across the Legislative District, meets every two weeks with a clear mission: to make a real impact on our community. Currently, they are hard at work creating a community-driven resolution to address rising issues like substance abuse and mental health in youth communities. This involves meticulous research, public input, and a dedication to understanding the legislative process from the ground up. In their efforts, they are collaborating with local organizations, including the Berks Civic Table, a partnership that has helped strengthen their legislative knowledge and broaden their network. Together, these young leaders are transforming their ideas and those of others – showcasing that young voices need to be involved in the development of politics.
I am now accepting applications for additional members of my Youth Council. You can apply through the QR code below or click here.

Church Ambassador Network Visit
|
I met with church leaders to discuss HB 1513. I and Representative Jill Cooper are the prime sponsors of HB 1513. This bill requires pornographic websites to verify the age of all website visitors to protect minors from inappropriate, harmful, and damaging material. Nearly 200 Pennsylvanian pastors, church ministry leaders, and Christian counselors representing over 2,000 churches and Christian institutions and an estimated 200,000 congregation members and workers have signed a letter in support of this legislation. Thank you for the visit; it was a pleasure to meet you all and hear your testimonies, your support, and advocacy work on this legislation!
