Policy Hearing Fighting Food Insecurity

Rep. Amen Brown hosted a House Majority Policy Committee hearing in Philadelphia this week to discuss food insecurity. As members, we heard testimonies from residents and organizations on the need to address food insecurity for all Pennsylvanians. In Pennsylvania, 1.7 million people are facing food insecurity. About 1 in 6 children are hungry. People are not earning enough to purchase healthy food for their families. I will continue to work for the families and children facing food insecurity in our communities. For information on available resources in our District, check out Helping Harvest's website here.

District Six Back-to-School Event

My Back-to-School event this past weekend with Reading City Councilor Chris Miller was a great success! Thank you to all of the families who attended. I would also like to thank our generous donors from the Rotary Club of Reading, and my Youth Council for their volunteer assistance in the backpack giveaway distribution.

Little League Baseball World Series Tour

This week I also attended the Little League Baseball World Series Tour with my colleagues for a roundtable discussion. We were able to hear from the Little League President and stakeholders. Admission is free and so is parking! A huge thank you to my colleague Representative Jaime Flick and Little League International for inviting us to Williamsport; it was a great experience!

Ribbon-Cutting for Oakbrook Center for Community Services

My staff joined the Reading Housing Authority for the Oakbrook Center for Community Services' Ribbon-Cutting last week. The Center hosts a neighborhood resource center, family services complex, and a childcare center. I am looking forward to seeing the Center's service to the community.

The New Reading High School Innovation Academy

The Reading School District invited me to tour the new Reading High School Innovation Academy, which is currently under construction and on track to be completed this year. My colleagues and I were able to walk through the development space and see how the Academy will support innovation, student engagement, and future-focused learning. This is an exciting step forward for our students and our city, and I am proud of the work that the Reading School District is doing.

2nd Annual Party at the Park

I attended the 2nd Annual Party at the Park last week at Pendora Park hosted by Councilman Jaime Baez Jr. This event brought our community together, provided resources, and distributed back-to-school supplies for our students. Thank you to everyone who came out!

Barbey's Playground Clean Up

The City of Reading is hosting a Clean Up at Barbey's Playground tomorrow, Saturday August 23 from 6 PM - 8 PM. Volunteers are needed. Supplies, water, and snacks will be provided. Join us in making our parks safer to play in.

2nd Annual Romanian Festival

This weekend is the 2nd Annual Romanian Festival on Saturday, August 23 from 12 PM-9 PM and Sunday, August 24 from 12 PM-6 PM at the Reading Liederkranz on 143 Spook Ln.
