Burns, Crime Stoppers introduce new therapy dog for Conemaugh Valley School District

JOHNSTOWN, April 20 — State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, and Cambria County Crime Stoppers introduced a new therapy dog named Jack today for the students in the Conemaugh Valley School District.

A golden lab, Jack was purchased by Cambria County Crime Stoppers, which also paid for his required training.

Working with Crime Stoppers President Gary Martin, Burns secured a $48,000 grant for the organization to provide therapy dogs for PTSD-suffering law-enforcement personnel and veterans—and now schools, too.

“The dog will act as a peaceful presence in the schools,” Burns said. “It will help students with anxiety when they’re having a bad day and whenever there’s tension. It’s a loving dog, and he’s already a hit with the kids.”
