Burns urges local entities to apply for school bus safety grants

JOHNSTOWN, March 3 — State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today urged local entities to apply for state grants from the Automated School Bus Enforcement Grant Program, which helps fund initiatives to increase school bus safety in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania law allows school districts to install and operate automated camera systems to enforce Pennsylvania's School Bus Stopping Law. Under the grant program, applicants may seek a grant for a range of safety and mobility projects, such as increasing school bus safety, education, and training.

Independent school bus contractors, school entities and municipalities are eligible. Each applicant can receive a grant of up to $100,000.

“I supported this law in the House to help ensure children are safe on their way to and from school,” Burns said. “I also want to make sure Cambria County benefits from the program. Any school, municipality or contractor interested in applying is welcome to contact my office for assistance.”

The program's new application period opened this week, and eligible organizations can apply online at grants.pa.gov through midnight on April 30, 2026.
