Langerholc and Burns: 80 Laptops Awarded to Johnstown Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facility

HARRISBURG, July 17Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35) and Rep. Frank Burns (D-Cambria) today announced the awarding of 80 laptops to help a Johnstown drug and alcohol treatment facility do its critical work.

The laptops, awarded to Peniel Residential Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facility, will allow users to connect to high-speed internet for essential services, including work and education, as well as be used to promote digital literacy.

“I am very pleased that Peniel Residential Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facility is receiving these laptops after a competitive process,” said Langerholc. “Connecting residents to high-speed internet is essential in helping them find work and education.”

"These new laptops will help Peniel’s clients build better habits, learn new skills, and focus on their recovery—one step at a time," Burns said.

The laptops were awarded by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority as part of a competitively awarded grant process established by the U.S. Department of Treasury.

The funding comes from Treasury’s Capital Projects Fund, which provided Pennsylvania $279 million for critical capital projects, including $20 million for non-profits, community anchor institutions and municipal governments to purchase laptops for local citizens.

It’s part of the broader mission to strengthen community infrastructure and create accessible public spaces that serve as lifelines for work, education and health.
