East Taylor Municipal Authority to replace cast iron waterlines with nearly $10 million in Pennvest funding obtained by Burns, Langerholc

HARRISBURG, July 16 State Rep. Frank Burns and state Sen. Wayne Langerholc Jr. today announced that the East Taylor Municipal Authority has been awarded $9.92 million in funding from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority.

The funding will be used to replace 22,000 feet of cast iron waterline with new plastic water mains, as well as install new lateral piping and meter pits.

“The water distribution system for East Taylor Township is old; it’s experiencing numerous leaks, and the cast iron pipes react with the chlorine used for disinfection that can result in less safe drinking water,” said Burns, D-Cambria. “Without this funding, it was expected that user fees would have increased by an additional 69%.”

East Taylor was awarded a $1.165 million grant and an $8.75 million low-interest loan.

“As a board member of Pennvest, I am pleased to see this significant investment in the East Taylor Municipal Authority’s water system, which will ensure safer, more reliable service for local families,” said Langerholc. “This project is a prime example of how Pennvest funding helps communities upgrade essential infrastructure without placing an overwhelming burden on ratepayers.”

ETMA serves 983 residential customers.

Pennvest is not supported by the state’s General Fund budget, which covers the daily operations and services of the Commonwealth. Financing is provided through the use of federal funding and prior bond issues by the state, as well as proceeds from Act 13 of 2012, the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee.
