Burns: Local municipalities can benefit from state grant programs addressing transportation, workforce training, greenspace and utility projects

HARRISBURG, July 1 -- State Rep. Frank Burns has long made it a priority to inform and encourage local governments, businesses, non-profits and educational and cultural institutions to apply for a multitude of state grants that become available.

As such, he’s publicizing five grant programs that have the potential to provide millions to successful applicants: Multimodal Transportation Fund; Manufacturing PA Training-to-Career Grant; Community Conservation Partnerships Program; Greenways, Trails and Recreation; and Small Water and Sewer Grants.

“These programs are designed to help municipalities and related government entities improve the safety and mobility of the traveling public, improve workforce training opportunities, create and expand green space and update water and sewer infrastructure,” Burns said. “There are a whole host of grant opportunities available from the state; these are just a few. I encourage any entity that’s eligible to apply and give my office a call. I’m happy to help facilitate state grant requests.”

The Multimodal Transportation Fund program provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure a safe and reliable system of transportation in the state. Grant awards range from $100,000 to $3 million. The deadline to apply is July 31. More information is available here.

The Manufacturing PA Training-to-Career Grant is for the development and deployment of workforce training programs for those with barriers to employment, to build awareness of manufacturing careers with you and those with barriers, and expand capacity for local and regional manufacturers. Proposals may not exceed $200,000; there is a rolling deadline. More information is available here.

The Community Conservation Partnerships Program awards grants for projects related to parks, recreation and conservation. Deadline to apply is April 2, 2025, and more information is available here.

Grants from the PA Small Water and Sewer Program are used for the construction, improvement, expansion, repair or rehabilitation of a water supply, sanitary sewer, storm sewer systems or flood control project. Projects must be between $30,000 and $500,000. Deadline to apply is April 30, 2025. For more information: CFA Website.
