Program provides students jumpstart on early childhood education
Rep. Frank Burns January 11, 2023 | 12:49 PM
JOHNSTOWN, Jan. 11 – The Learning Lamp has been selected to receive a $224,790 state grant to help fund a pre-apprenticeship program for high school students to help them jumpstart careers in early childhood education, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, announced today.
“Schools-to-work programs like this help high school students transition into in-demand careers and get a jump on entering the local workforce,” Burns said. “This is an investment not just in those students and their futures, but in our community as well. In this case especially, since these students will in turn go on to educate the next generation.”
The Learning Lamp was one of 11 programs that was selected to receive a state grant which was awarded by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry’s Schools-to-Work grant program.
The Learning Lamp's Early Childhood Education Registered Pre-Apprenticeship Program provides high school students with the opportunity to graduate with a Child Development Associate credential. With pre-apprenticeship serving as a bridge, students can seamlessly transition to ECE Registered Apprenticeship and scholarship-funded advanced degree pathways to earn associate and bachelor's degrees in early childhood and K-4 education at no cost.
