Burns: Grants available for violence prevention, direct care workers
State rep. urges organizations to apply, says his office is ready to help

EBENSBURG, Sept. 17 – As a problem solver who’s always looking to leverage state resources for the benefit of his community, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today is urging nonprofits, community organizations, local government and schools to take advantage of multiple grant opportunities, and to contact his office if they need help.
“Since taking office I’ve helped bring more than $200 million in state and federal investment into our communities for projects large and small,” Burns said. “I’ll never stop fighting for Cambria County, but I can’t apply for these grants myself – which is why I want to make sure local organizations are aware they are out there.”

The current grant opportunities Burns wanted to highlight include:
Pennsylvania Commission on Crime & Delinquency: 2021 Community Violence Prevention and Reduction
Who May Apply: Municipalities, counties, institutions of higher education, and community-based organizations.
Use: Evidence-based programs and services to reduce community violence. See grant guidelines for complete list of eligible activities.
Funds: Up to $300,000 per application for up to a two-year project period. There are no match requirements.
Application Deadline: November 10

Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry: Direct Care Worker Training
Who May Apply: Local workforce development boards, nonprofit and non-governmental entities, community-based organizations, education and post-secondary organizations, healthcare organizations, labor organizations, business associations, trade associations of long-term services and supports providers, and economic development entities.
Use: To create and develop training programs that increase the quality of services, offer specialty certifications, and create viable career opportunities for personal care assistants, home health aides and certified nursing assistants.
Funds: Awards of up to $2,000,000. A total of $4,000,000 will be awarded statewide.

Pennsylvania Department of Education: Career and Technical Education Competitive Equipment Grants
Eligibility: School districts with 8 or more PDE-approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, as well as Career and Technical Schools.
Use: To update or purchase new equipment.
Funds: Grants of up to $50,000. There is a 50% local match requirement.

Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection: Section 319 Nonpoint Source Management Watershed Grants
Eligibility: Watershed associations, counties, municipalities, municipal authorities, councils of government, conservation districts, educational institutions, and nonprofits.
Use: Projects to address nonpoint source pollution originating from agricultural activities, abandoned mine drainage, stormwater runoff, and streambank and degradation.
Funds: No minimum or maximum given.

Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection: Environmental Education Grants
Who May Apply: Public and private schools, nonprofits, colleges and universities, county conservation districts and businesses.
Use: Projects may deliver both formal (K-12) and non-formal education programs targeting any audience, including, but not limited to, youth, teachers, municipal officials, farmers, developers, site designers, businesses, and homeowners or other community residents. Environmental Justice Areas, including people who live and work within the communities, are considered priority audiences.
Funds: Mini grants up to $3,000 for local projects (no match required). General grants up to $85,000 for local, regional, and statewide projects (20% cash or in-kind match required).
