Dear Neighbor,
I want to share an update on the ongoing sinkhole remediation project along U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike), which affects portions of Upper Merion Township. As many of you are aware, this $22.4 million PennDOT project is a critical, long-term investment in the safety and stability of our infrastructure – one made necessary by persistent sinkhole activity that has disrupted traffic and threatened the integrity of the road.
The complexities of this project are significant and, unfortunately, have created massive delays. I’ve been in regular communication with PennDOT and have strongly advocated for increased resources and faster progress. In response, the contractor has committed to deploying near round-the-clock work crews to help mitigate delays and get the road reopened as quickly and safely as possible.
As part of the current phase, northbound U.S. 202 between Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard will remain closed 24/7 through late September. Motorists will continue to be detoured via Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard. I understand the frustration this causes and appreciate your continued patience as we push to complete this work.
Improving our roads has unfortunately negatively impacted our local businesses that rely on these roads. Businesses, such as Marian’s Attic, however, remain open. I encourage you to continue supporting our local shops during this time – they are a vital part of our community and need our help more than ever.
Thank you again for your understanding and cooperation. I’ll continue to advocate for our community and will keep you updated as progress is made. If you have any questions or need assistance navigating the detours, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office.
Sincerely,
State Rep. Tim Briggs
