Policy Committee Hearings

As the chairman of the Policy Committee, I am privileged to travel the state and take government direct to the people where they live, and take their concerns back to Harrisburg.

On October 25, 2023, the Democratic Policy Committee took a tour of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 542 Health Center, in Fort Washington, PA. Following the tour, lawmakers hosted a roundtable discussion to gather feedback from union officials on the importance of affordable healthcare options.

On October 24, 2023, the Policy Committee met in Media, PA for a walking tour of businesses on State Street and roundtable discussion on pedestrian safety.

Members of the PA Nonprofit Caucus joined the House Majority Policy Committee at a Nonprofit Symposium on Oct. 12, 2023 to detail how nonprofit organizations can engage effectively with the legislature on their missions, and detail how nonprofits may be eligible for government grants and loan programs.

On October 5, 2023, a joint hearing with the House Majority and Senate Democratic Policy Committees was held to discuss book bans.

On September 15, 2023, the House Majority Policy Committee hosted a joint hearing with the Pennsylvania Legislative Latino Caucus as Latino community leaders detailed everyday life in their neighborhoods and underserved communities and how specific issues impact education, housing, and mental health.

On September 14, 2023, the House Majority Policy Committee traveled to Philadelphia for a hearing, held during Rep. Joe Hohenstein's Disability Summit, regarding the caregiver workforce crisis from a consumer’s point of view.

On September 8, 2023, Rep. Ryan Bizzarro and members of the House Majority Policy Committee convened a hearing in Lancaster to discuss the need for Community Development Financial Institutions and support for workforce development in certain Pennsylvania communities.

On August 8, 2023, Rep. Ryan Bizzarro and members of the House Majority Policy Committee hosted a roundtable discussion to discuss the importance of organ donation and education, along with finding ways to increase opportunities to register as a donor.

On August 7, 2023, the House Majority Policy Committee held a hearing at Kennywood to discuss building partnerships between community leaders, law enforcement, and residents as ways to decrease violence and improve public safety.

On August 3, 2023, Rep. Ryan Bizzarro and the House Majority leadership team and Policy Committee wrapped up the statewide “Save Our Schools” tour with a stop at Carrick High School in Pittsburgh to tour the building, discuss the need for fair funding for public education, and rally with education advocates.

On August 2, 2023, Rep. Ryan Bizzarro and members of the House Majority Leadership team and House Majority Policy Committee hosted a roundtable discussion and rally at Bald Eagle Area Middle and High School.

On August 1, 2023, Rep. Ryan Bizzarro and other members of the House Democratic leadership team and Policy Committee joined students, teachers, and education advocates in Reading for a tour of two local high school buildings and a discussion on education inequality in Pennsylvania.

On July 31, 2023, Rep. Ryan Bizzarro joined educators, advocates, labor leaders, and concerned parents for the first stop on a statewide tour where members of the Pennsylvania House Majority Leadership team and the House Majority Policy Committee were seeking answers to repair and reform funding for public schools.

On May 15, 2023, the House Majority Policy Committee convened a roundtable at the Delaware County Health Department’s Baldwin Tower to meet with county health officials. The discussion focused on the importance for every county in Pennsylvania to have a health department, and the role they play in maintaining physical and mental wellness in the communities the serve. Following that discussion, committee members traveled to the Delaware County Wellness Center for a tour.

On May 12, 2023 the House Democratic Policy Committee convened a hearing in Delaware County, hosted by Rep. Leanne Krueger, to discuss the need to expand access to contraceptives for Pennsylvanians following recent court rulings that put availability of this vital medication at risk.
