Bizzarro announces $2.1M investments for local project, services

$1.8M will fund Route 5 upgrades; $350K to be used for survivors’ housing

ERIE, Dec. 30 – More than $2.1 million in state investments will fund roadway safety upgrades and housing services for domestic violence survivors in Erie County, state Rep. Ryan Bizzarro announced.

“These state investments will make our community safer and stronger,” said Bizzarro, who represents Fairview and Millcreek townships. “The state investments announced today will improve safety on our roadways here at home, and they will also ensure we have the funds and services needed to protect survivors of domestic violence and their children – ensuring they have a place to turn.”

The two grants announced today will fund local projects and services:

  • $1,799,885.76 has been approved for signal upgrades along the Route 5 corridor in Millcreek Township through the Green Light-Go Program. The program funds projects to improve safety by reducing congestion and improving traffic flow, requiring a 20% match that helps lower the burden on local communities for upgrades.
  • $350,000 has been approved through the Department of Community and Economic Development and Emergency Solutions Grant for the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence and its 12 sub-recipients. The statewide grant will fund emergency housing and services to protect survivors of domestic violence and keep them from experiencing homelessness in Erie County. Studies reveal the vast majority of mothers experiencing homelessness reported being physically assaulted by a family member.

The announcements continue Bizzarro’s efforts to support funding for local projects through state investments. This year, Bizzarro has helped secure more than $29 million in state funding for projects and services in the Erie region.
