Bizzarro announces $1 million for Erie County Community College

Grant will allow more students to get a head start on careers

HARRISBURG, April 28 – More high school students are opting to take college courses while in high school, enabling them to get a head start while earning high school and college credits. State Rep. Ryan Bizzarro announced a $1 million grant for Erie County Community College that will allow more students to take advantage of dual enrollment programs.

“Dual enrollment allows students across our region to get a taste of college before ever leaving home,” said Bizzarro, who represents Fairview and Millcreek townships. “It can also be a cost-saving measure for families and students, who are earning college credits that will go toward earning their college degree before they even receive their high school diploma. The grant announced today paves the way for more high school students to experience dual enrollment and get a head start on starting their future career.”

Erie County Community College is one of 15 postsecondary schools across the state that received grant funding to help sustain the Dual Credit Innovation Grant Program, which opens the door for more students to take college courses.

The $1 million grant announced for Erie County Community College was part of the state’s $14 million announced across the state to 15 postsecondary schools.

The grant announcement today continues Bizzarro’s effort to properly fund schools, first responders, workforce development, public works, nonprofits, local businesses and organizations across the region. So far this year he has helped secure more than $3.5 million in state funding for local projects.
