Presque Isle Lights Return | State Supports Erie Region | Steelhead Spawn

$168,337 TO SUPPORT COASTAL ZONE

The Lake Erie Coastal Zone offers residents and visitors alike a tremendous amount of recreational, educational, and environmental resources. The Lake Erie coast is a critical habitat and ecosystem — one that deserves to be protected so we can enjoy it for years to come.

The multiple grants announced this week will help researchers conduct studies that will protect this incredible resource, keep the shoreline clean, and increase community and visitor engagement. Read more about the $168,337 going to our region.

DIGNITY & AFFORDABILITY

The shared-housing approach by Long-Term Care & Medicaid Innovations promotes a homelike environment. It provides dignity, affordability, and a genuine sense of community — options not always available in institutional care.

I joined our delegation on a tour to speak with seniors and adults with disabilities who prefer this setting, seeing firsthand the many benefits it offers to people across our region.

HOW WE VOTED

The House returns to Harrisburg for session on Monday, Dec. 15. To see how we voted on all measures, go here.

PRESQUE ISLE LIGHTS

Presque Isle Lights is back from Dec. 5 through Dec. 28! Take a drive— Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays — through Presque Isle State Park and enjoy the festive displays.

The Presque Isle Partnership deserves a big THANK YOU for making it happen!

STEELHEAD SPAWN

This week, volunteers and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission gathered along Trout Run near the Fairview Hatchery to assist in the annual steelhead spawn.

Did You Know? Adult steelhead travel the depths of Lake Erie and begin to spawn in nearby tributary streams in late September. PA Fish & Boat staff collect and spawn fish from November through January, collecting about 2 million eggs. Those eggs are then raised in hatcheries until the fish are fingerlings and stocked back into Erie waters. About 1 million steelhead fingerlings are stocked by the PFBC each spring. The life span for steelhead is 8 years, and adult fish can grow to weigh between 6 and 11 pounds.

FUELING PA’S FUTURE

This year's budget allows us to fuel Pennsylvania’s future and put people to work. From investments in apprenticeships to funding sites for businesses to grow, this year’s budget is designed to create jobs. We invested $25 million to hire more childcare workers and retain the great staff we have, and $30 million to support student teachers. We also invested in technical education and continue to work at streamlining the permitting process to help businesses grow.

This year’s budget delivers for the people of PA and for the future of PA.

WORKING FOR YOU

I will always advocate for you and local projects in Harrisburg. Our region is vital to the state’s economy, so I’ve gone to work to secure the state funding we need for local schools, seniors, veterans, improved housing and local businesses. I helped secure $92 million in funding for local projects during the 2023-24 session, and this year state funding for projects in our region has surpassed $18.8 million.

You sent me to Harrisburg to make sure our region has a voice at the table and receives the funding it needs to thrive.

POLICY COMMITTEE CONTINUES WORK

This year, the House Majority Policy Committee has held 42 hearings across 32 ZIP codes in 13 counties.

As a member of the House Majority Leadership team, I serve as Chairman of the House Majority Policy Committee. We travel the state, exploring issues and talking to members of the community, workers, advocates and experts on a variety of topics. We examine issues to see if there is a legislative solution to improving lives across the commonwealth.

UP NEXT: The Committee will travel to Philadelphia on Monday and Chester County Tuesday.
