POLICY COMMITTEE TRAVELS TO SOUTHEAST PA
|
The Policy Committee hosted three events in Bucks County this week, examining ways we can help workers and working families across the state. Rep. Tim Brennan’s hearing focused on improving civics education across Pennsylvania; Rep. Jim Prokopiak examined attainable housing and the skyrocketing rent in his district; Rep. Brian Munroe hosted a hearing highlighting the reason for rising electric bills and questioned what residents can do about it.
As a member of the House Majority Leadership team, I serve as Chairman of the House Majority Policy Committee. We travel the state, exploring issues and talking to members of the community, workers, advocates and experts on a variety of topics. We examine issues to see if there is a legislative solution to improving lives across the commonwealth. We have hosted 36 hearings across 28 ZIP codes in 10 counties so far this year, and we expect to host 100+ hearings this session – which is our typical workload.
Up next: The committee is scheduled to return to Harrisburg Tuesday; it travels to Norristown in Montgomery County Wednesday, and it hosts a hearing in the city of Chester in Delaware County Thursday.

In July, Congress passed a federal budget that affects benefit programs, including SNAP. SNAP helps feed hungry people, however, changes in the federal law began Sept. 1. Recipients may now need to work, volunteer or be in a training/education program for 20 hours a week to keep their SNAP benefits. Learn more about the new rules and other changes made at the federal level by going here.

9 | 11 | 2001: Twenty-four years ago, our nation faced one of its darkest days. But out of the tragedy of September 11th came an undeniable truth: we are strongest when we stand together. The courage of first responders, the compassion of neighbors, and the resilience of everyday Americans showed the world who we are.
We will never forget.
As we honor the lives lost and the heroes who rose that day, let’s carry forward the lesson that unites us all—before anything else, we are Americans. And when we remember that, there is nothing we cannot overcome.
