MY REBATE EVENT IS MONDAY

You can file for you rebate or learn the status of your rebate!

This event is for people who are filing for the first time AND residents who have already filed with our office and want to check the status of their rebate.

If you're a first-timer to the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program and you're not sure what to bring with you, you can find a helpful checklist here – or call my office for details. Join us on Monday, June 23 in my district office in Millcreek at Peninsula Plaza, located at 1101 Peninsula Drive.

HOW WE VOTED

I'm working to deliver a budget that helps the people in our region!

This week, the House passed a bipartisan transportation bill that would fund mass transit in all 67 counties. This was a bipartisan measure (HB 1364), ensuring mass transit across the state isn’t forced to scale back operations or cut services. Transit keeps our economy moving, helping seniors travel to doctor’s appointments, allowing veterans to receive the services they need and workers get to their jobs. Every dollar spent on transportation is an investment in our community, resulting in an estimated $5 in economic activity. It helps us avoid gridlock on our roadways and creates jobs.

We also passed a pair of measures to help our volunteer firefighters. About 90% of PA’s fire departments are volunteer stations, and it’s become increasingly difficult across the state to attract and retain volunteers. The House moved a bill to eliminate nonprofit filing fees for volunteer departments (HB 1084) and we voted to allow the exclusion of contributions from being taxed when it is a length of service award program for volunteer first responders (HB 1306).

The House also considered numerous bills on second consideration, including passing and rejecting numerous amendments for bills addressing issues like ending junk fees, housing fairness and police communication with the public.

The House returns to vote in Harrisburg on Monday. You can see how we voted on all bills here

SAVE THE DATE: MY SENIOR FAIR IS AUG. 25

Make plans to join us this summer for my annual Senior Fair, which typically draws about 1,000 people from around the region. We will once again have free refreshments, giveaways, entertainment, and dozens of vendors & organizations.

Join us Monday, Aug. 25 at the Zem Zem Shrine Club!

MILLCREEK STUDENTS VISIT HARRISBURG

Millcreek Township's Kevin Zdunski and Henry Duong visited the state Capitol this week as part of Keystone Boys State.

I'm disappointed I missed them, but I wanted to highlight that this program for rising high school seniors allows young men to experience leadership training, real world challenges and personal growth. Organized by the American Legion, including American Legion Millcreek Post 773, this program has been in place since 1936. Keep up the great work Kevin and Henry!

PRESQUE ISLE EXPRESS

The Presque Isle Express on Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority is FREE on Wednesdays (10:30 a.m. – 10:16 p.m.) and Saturdays (10:30 a.m. – 8:16 p.m.), now through Aug. 22.

THURSDAY'S HOLIDAY

Many state and federal offices will be closed on Thursday in observance of Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of legalized slavery – specifically the U.S. Army’s enforcement and freeing of 250,000+ enslaved people in Galveston, Texas after the Civil War. My office will begin returning messages Friday morning.

SENIOR VOUCHERS

Senior vouchers are available once again this year in our region for the purchase of fresh foods and vegetables. Please note, the Bayfront Convention Center (June 30) and Fairview Tri-Boro Senior Center (July 7) distribution events are happening in the next couple weeks. Find more information here.

POLICY COMMITTEE WORK

As a member of the House Majority Leadership team, I serve as Chairman of the House Majority Policy Committee. We travel the state, exploring issues and talking to members of the community, workers, advocates and experts on a variety of topics. We examine issues to see if there is a legislative solution to improving lives across the commonwealth. We have hosted 22 hearings across 15 ZIP codes in 7 counties so far this year, and we expect to host 100+ hearings this session – which is our typical workload.

Up next: The Policy Committee plans to travel to northeastern PA in July.

My office in Millcreek Township is located in Peninsula Plaza at 1101 Peninsula Drive, Suite 213, Erie, PA 16505. We are open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

SAFEGUARDING OUR SCHOOLS

When private for-profit schools and their dark money backers came after Fairview and Millcreek School Districts to siphon off taxpayer dollars to make a profit off taxpayers. I stopped them. We need to protect our high-performing schools!

My team and I deliver for local people & projects. We cut the red tape in Harrisburg to secure the support our region needs.

  • When our schools need funding ...
  • When our police officers need a new vehicle to preserve lives ...
  • When our firefighters need funds for life-saving equipment ...

We delivered to the tune of more than $92 million during the 2023-24 legislative session.
