ROSS TOWNSHIP, Oct. 7 – State Rep. Emily Kinkead announced today that $277,200 in state funding has been awarded to the Allegheny Land Trust to support the acquisition and permanent preservation of approximately 27 acres of woodlands.
“Creating and protecting green space is a fantastic investment in the health and well-being of everyone in our communities,” said Kinkead, D-Allegheny. “I am proud to have worked with Senator Lindsey Williams in securing this investment to improve our air quality, help with stormwater mitigation, and allow more local residents to enjoy nature.”
Kinkead said the funding will support the Lowries Run Expansion Project, helping create additional green space and opportunities for outdoor recreation. The 27 acres to be permanently protected are estimated to absorb 22.5 million gallons of rainwater and sequester more than 100,000 pounds of carbon annually.
The grant was awarded through the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Community Conservation Partnership Program, which seeks to connect Pennsylvanians with the outdoors by supporting recreational improvements, natural-resource conservation and community-revitalization efforts.
