Frankel applauds more than $1.7 million in state funding for local community and public safety projects

Grants will support accessible housing, theater upgrades, a new community facility and fire and sanitary equipment

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 15 – State Rep. Dan Frankel, D-Allegheny, announced today that more than $1.7 million in funding awarded through the state’s Local Share Account grants program will benefit community and public safety projects throughout the 23rd Legislative District.

“Accessible housing, safe community spaces, and reliable emergency response — these grants are about making sure every resident of District 23 can fully participate in community life,” Frankel said. “I'm proud to help deliver funding that supports our diverse, vibrant neighborhoods.”

Awardees are as follows:

  • $82,500 to Bnai Emunoh Chabad to convert an existing building into a safe, community-serving facility with up to six office spaces and a multipurpose room for daycare or community use and events.
  • $270,000 to Community Human Services Corp. to renovate two properties at 414 and 416 Atwood St. into ADA-compliant accessible housing units, along with additional construction of accessible ramps for four more units in Pittsburgh.
  • $300,000 to Community Theater Project Corp. to replace mechanical systems at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater.
  • $300,000 to Allegheny County Sanitary Authority to purchase a combination sewer cleaning truck.
  • $800,000 to the city of Pittsburgh to purchase a pumper fire truck for use by the city’s Bureau of Fire to replace a deteriorating unit.

The grants were approved today by the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The Local Share Account Programs were created through the 2004 PA Racehorse Development and Gaming Act, which provides for the distribution of gaming revenue to support projects in the public interest within the state.
