Goughnour announces $1.4 million in violence-prevention grants for district

HARRISBURG, April 15 — State Rep. Dan Goughnour, D-Allegheny, and state Sen. Nick Pisciottano, D-Allegheny, announced today that four violence-prevention programs in the 35^th Legislative District will benefit from nearly $1.4 million in new grants.

The grants were approved Wednesday by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

The local grant recipients are:

Duquesne City School District: $500,000 to expand the Duquesne AI Scholars Initiative, an enrichment program for at-risk youth.
Maple Unified Student Academy: $385,636 to expand out-of-school services for at-risk youth.
The Dragon’s Den: $333,911 to expand and out-of-school violence-prevention model in Homestead.
Best of the Batch Foundation: $200,000 to expand its trauma-informed out-of-school time model for Mon Valley youth.

“These schools and organizations are offering important programs that serve children here in the Mon Valley who need some extra guidance,” Goughnour said. “I appreciate the work they do and I appreciate that the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency is stepping up to help all four of them to expand their services.”

“These grants are an investment in the safety of Mon Valley communities,” Pisciottano said. “With PCCD’s help, we’re ensuring more young people have access to opportunity and stability. Thanks to Rep. Goughnour’s leadership these resources were secured to expand programs that support and uplift at-risk youth.”

The grants come from the Violence Intervention and Prevention and the Building Opportunities Through Out-Of-School Time programs. More information on the grant programs is available here.
