Goughnour: $154K in grants awarded for Mon Valley public safety needs

HARRISBURG, Jan. 13 — State Rep. Dan Goughnour and state Sen. Nick Pisciottano, both D-Allegheny, today announced that $154,000 in state grants has been awarded for four public safety purposes in the 35th Legislative District.

The local grant awardees are:

  • Whitaker Borough: $52,000 for a police vehicle
  • McKeesport Police Department: $25,000 for a UTV to patrol city parks and trails
  • Versailles Volunteer Fire Co.: $35,000 for equipment including battery rescue tools
  • West Homestead Fire Department: $42,000 for security fencing and signage

“As a former McKeesport police officer, advocating for public safety needs is very important to me,” Goughnour said. “Senator Pisciottano and I work hard to make sure our first responders have the resources they need, so I’m glad to see the Mon Valley getting its fair share of state grants for these purposes.”

"These grants help ensure our police, firefighters and first responders have the tools they need to protect our communities," Pisciottano said. "I'm happy to work with Representative Goughnour to support these public safety investments which will strengthen readiness and response across the district."

The grants will come from programs at the state Department of Community and Economic Development.
