Deasy announces $550,000 in state grants for parks, infrastructure and community projects

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 18 – State Rep. Dan Deasy, D-Allegheny, announced today a combined $550,000 in grants from the Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund will support a range of local projects from playground and pool upgrades to sewer rehabilitation and pedestrian safety improvements.

“Bringing state dollars back to the 27th District is one of the most important jobs I have as the representative here,” Deasy said. “These are projects that affect the everyday lives of our residents. Quality of life, safety and health are all considerations when choosing these projects and their importance to our community.”

Deasy said the following projects were awarded funding:

  • $180,000 to Char-West Council of Governments for improvements to the Ingram Tot Lot Park including new playground equipment, chain link fence, sidewalk and tree removal.
  • $155,000 to Char-West Council of Governments for ADA upgrades to Crafton Pool. The project includes a new bathhouse roof, new water slide, new ADA pool lift, awning, air conditioning for the concession stand and a new pavilion.
  • $100,000 to the Borough of Rosslyn Farms for the Active Pathways project. The work includes new sidewalks and curb along Parish, Kings Highway and the ballfield on Rosslyn Road.
  • $85,000 to the Borough of Thornburg for cured-in-place pipe lining to rehabilitate old deteriorated sanitary sewer pipe.
  • $30,000 to Community of Change Center in the West End for renovations to concrete at the parking lot entrance, repair of load bearing columns, and installation of a kitchenette and computer lab.

The Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund is overseen by the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County and the state Commonwealth Financing Authority and provides financial assistance to entities to facilitate economic development projects in Allegheny County.
