Deasy bill on posting of veterans’ benefits heads to governor’s desk

HARRISBURG, June 30 – Legislation sponsored by state Rep. Dan Deasy, D-Allegheny, that would require employers to display information on veterans’ benefits and services in the workplace is now headed to the governor’s desk.

“Too often, veterans miss out on benefits they’ve earned simply because they don’t know what’s available,” Deasy said. “This bill is a commonsense way to make sure that every eligible veteran sees the support that they’ve earned through serving our country, right where they work. I’m proud to see this bill headed to Governor Shapiro’s desk.”

House Bill 799 would require employers with more than 50 full-time employees to post a notice in a visible area of the workplace or on the company website, if accessible by employees. The poster, created by the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and made accessible to eligible employers through the Department of Labor and Industry, would include details about:

  • Contact and website information for the PA Department of Military and Veterans Affairs
  • Information and contact details for federal and state benefits and services for veterans and their families
  • Contact information for county directors of veterans’ affairs
  • The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Crisis Line

“Moving forward, we need to work to enhance those benefits that so many of them need and have honorable and so heroically earned,” Deasy said.

The bill passed both chambers with bipartisan support and now awaits the governor’s signature.
