Young presents major grant funding for projects at Bartram’s Garden

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 12 – Today, state Rep. Regina Young, D-Phila./Delaware, presented a check for a $1 million grant from Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program to Bartram’s Garden for several projects on their campus.
The grant will support the construction of the Ecosystems Education Center at Bartram's Garden, reconfiguration of the main driveway to Bartram's Garden and the Bartram's Mile Trail to include a pedestrian sidewalk and designated bike lane for safe multi-modal traffic, and restoration of the pedestrian bridge connecting Bartram’s Village.
“Bartram’s Garden is a wonderful oasis in our southwest Philadelphia backyard, and I’m proud to advocate for more resources to help develop and maintain this educational campus,” said Young. “These projects will expand mobility around the facility and reconnect the grounds with the Bartram Village public housing complex so that everyone can access and enjoy the possibilities available across the gardens. From educational opportunity to the public gardens, to the riverfront access, there is something for everyone at Bartram’s Garden, with so much more to come!”
Young presented the check to Maitreyi Roy, executive director at Bartram's Garden, who expressed appreciation for the state’s support of their mission.
“This investment brings us one step closer to breaking ground on the Ecosystems Education Center and creating a place where young people, families, and neighbors can learn directly from the living systems that surround them,” said Roy. “We are deeply grateful to state Sen. Anthony Williams and Rep. Regina Young for their leadership and belief in this vision. As we move toward construction, this support builds real momentum for a project that will inspire environmental stewardship and serve the Southwest Philadelphia community for generations.”
The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program is a state grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the design, acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects. RACP projects are authorized in the Redevelopment Assistance section of a Capital Budget Itemization Act, have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, and generate substantial increases or maintain levels of employment, tax revenues or other measures of economic activity. Projects under RACP cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs.
