Important Meeting on Future of School Facilities
|
I hope you can attend an important informational session with leaders from the School District of Philadelphia about their facilities planning process and their timeline. You’ll have the opportunity to provide your input on public education buildings and facilities in our community.
The next meeting closest to us is on Monday, July 14, at Delaplaine McDaniel School, 1801 S. 22nd St. – from 3 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
There are similar sessions across the city for the next few weeks, including Tuesdays at the School District headquarters on North Broad St., in addition to two virtual meetings that you are also welcome to attend.
Go here for a full list of scheduled in-person and virtual meetings and access to the presentation in multiple languages.

Delivering for You in Harrisburg
|
This week, my House colleagues and I passed important bills that will help our neighbors and improve our communities:
I was happy to vote for the continued protection and safety of hotel workers by requiring hotel employers to provide devices that serve as “panic buttons” for employees working alone servicing guestrooms (HB 1358).
We're protecting consumers by requiring companies to provide notification before each automatic renewal, to be transparent about renewal terms, and to allow subscribers to cancel their subscription services exclusively online if they initially subscribed online (HB 1299).
We’re helping our local barbershops cut through the red tape by ensuring the board that oversees the profession runs efficiently and effectively (HB 1646).
We're keeping campgrounds affordable by exempting privately owned campgrounds from local amusement and admission taxes (HB 1424).

I’m thankful that DC 33 and the city came to an agreement for the betterment of our city and city workers. Trash and recycling collection, as well as most city services that were affected by the work stoppage, are set to resume on Monday, July 14, after a contract deal was reached on Wednesday. You can get more information about services such as libraries, pools, and more on the city’s website.

The actions that are happening right now with the federal government in Washington, D.C. have been very overwhelming with what seems like daily attacks on our neighbors, our freedoms and basic rights. Just remember that there are always people to help. If you are concerned about the actions being taken on immigration, I encourage you to contact these local organizations listed in this document below. Additionally, while my office is here to assist you with state and local services, your concerns on these federal actions need to be heard by your federal officials. Check out the list of our federal representatives and senators and contact their offices for assistance or to let them know about your concerns. We’ve seen recently how advocacy and loud objections can lead to a course reversal or reevaluation by the president and his administration.
Don’t give up and don’t give in.
Know your rights and stay vigilant for your family and your community.

I hope to see you this summer on our Summer Walking Tour!

These rebates have made it easier for older and disabled folks to stay in their homes while affording groceries, medicine, and so much more.
The application period is now open to get a rebate on your 2024 taxes or rent paid. Thanks to changes PA House Democrats fought for, more people are eligible, and the rebates are bigger than ever!
