Solutions for Flooding & Severe Weather Damage
|
For my neighbors who live in Eastwick, Tinicum, and plenty of other areas in Delco and Philly, we know all about the dangers of flooding. I was happy to join my colleagues in the House Democratic Policy Committee in Reading, PA this week to talk about strategies for mitigating damages from flooding and other severe weather. As climate change continues to impact our world, these issues will only get worse, so it’s important that we look for solutions now before it’s too late.
Click here to read more about a group of Eastwick residents who travelled to DC this week to advocate with our federal officials for the same reason. Solving issues like this is an All Hands On Deck situation. This is why I encourage you to learn about your government and engage with your elected officials at every level.

One my favorite parts of being a state Representative is educating my neighbors on civics and the importance of state and local government in your life. Check out my Civics101 series on my YouTube playlist and get educated on how your government works for YOU!

Do You Need a REAL ID? YES!
|
As of May 7, you’ll need a REAL ID, valid U.S. Passport or Military ID to board a domestic airline flight or visit a federal government building. While it’s important to get your REAL ID, you only need to get one now if you have a flight scheduled in May or need to enter a federal building that requires one - but be sure to get yours soon! Click above to watch my brief discussion with Shane from the Philadelphia International Airport about the importance of getting your REAL ID!
PennDOT is hosting REAL ID Days at certain driver’s license centers where they can process and issue your REAL ID at the time of service. These are days in which those centers are normally scheduled closed. You can visit the South 70th Street Driver License Center at 2904 South 70th Street, Unit 8, in Southwest Philly on Monday, April 14 & 28, as well as May 5 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. to get your REAL ID with same day service. The Whitman Plaza Driver License Center at 330 West Oregon Avenue, Ste 240, in South Philly can also process your REAL ID on those days, however not with same day service.

Resources available in seven languages to assist Pennsylvanians applying for Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program
|
The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue has released a multilingual tip sheet for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program to help more eligible residents access the benefit. Now available in seven languages—English, Spanish, Arabic, Simplified & Traditional Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese—the tip sheet is part of Pennsylvania’s initiative to expand access to state resources.
The PTRR Program, recently expanded for the first time in nearly 20 years, has already provided over $319 million in rebates for 2024, helping over 522,000 Pennsylvanians, including 106,000 first-time applicants. It supports seniors (65+), widows/widowers (50+), and people with disabilities (18+) based on income and rent/property tax paid.
Applicants can file online through myPATH in English or Spanish, with no account needed. Additional support for the PTRR program is also offered at Department of Revenue district offices, local Area Agencies on Aging, senior centers, and my district office.
Additional Spanish-language resources include a translated instruction book and a step-by-step video guide. For more info, visit revenue.pa.gov/PTRR.

During our first Women in Government event, we talked a lot about the actions that are happening right now with the federal government in Washington, D.C. It has been very overwhelming with what seems like daily attacks on our neighbors, our freedoms and basic rights. Just remember that there are always people to help. If you are concerned about the actions being taken on immigration, I encourage you to contact these local organizations listed in this document. Additionally, while my office is here to assist you with state and local services, your concerns on these federal actions need to be heard by your federal officials. Check out the list of our congressional and senatorial officials and contact their offices for assistance or to let them know about your concerns. We’ve seen recently how advocacy and loud objections can lead to a course reversal or reevaluation by the president and his administration.
Don’t give up and don’t give in.
Know your rights and stay vigilant for your family and your community.

Our local Coffee with Cops meetings at the McDonalds on Island Avenue are always a great opportunity for the community to meet with our local law enforcement and talk about what’s happening in our neighborhoods over a cup of coffee.
|
It was inspiring to see so many people out at the 2025 Gift of Life Donor Dash on Sunday at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.

Chris and Jalen from my staff were walking the neighborhood in Southwest Philly near Penrose Elementary knocking on doors to speak with our neighbors and drop off information about the services and resources that our office can provide.

PROGRAMS AND OPPORTUNITIES
|
Money Back in Your Pocket
|
The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program has made it easier for older friends and neighbors to stay in their homes and afford groceries, medicine, and so much more.
The application period for the 2025 program has just opened to get a rebate on your 2024 taxes or rent paid. Thanks to changes House Democrats fought for, more people are eligible, and the rebates are bigger than ever!
Give us a call, send an email, or stop by one of my offices to find out if you’re eligible. We can even help you apply.
|
My office helps city officials and local organizations connect to state grants available to help them do their important work to improve our communities and the lives of residents. You can find a list of state grant programs that are currently open for application on my website. We update this list as new programs come online so check back often.
