North Allegheny seniors Camden Sexton and A.J. Jeffers recently brought home state gold in their respective categories at the SkillsUSA Pennsylvania Championships in Hershey. Sexton garnered gold in the Knife Skills competition, while Jeffers took gold in Culinary Arts.

Winni Hayward, a freshman from North Allegheny, recently claimed the Section 2 Singles Title in tennis. Hayward and second-place competitor Sammy Leeman, also from North Allegheny, have qualified for the WPIAL Singles tournament.

I recently took part in a tour of the West View Water Authority treatment plant on Neville Island. I am proud to continue supporting this vital service, including with a recent state grant to replace water lines in McCandless.

It was great to join Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O'Connor and other local leaders to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Google working in Pittsburgh. The tech industry is a critical part of our region's economy, with many workers living in the communities I represent. I will continue to support responsible investment from Google and other tech companies in Western Pennsylvania.

I joined several of my colleagues for a panel at the Western Pennsylvania Legislative Reception hosted by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and The Pittsburgh Business Exchange.

We discussed critical issues facing our region, such as regulation of AI and data centers, fostering economic growth and development, and funding transportation and infrastructure. Thank you for the invitation and the opportunity to learn from business leaders in Western Pennsylvania.

As McCandless marks its 175th anniversary, it was wonderful to attend the town's Community Day and present a State House citation marking this historic event. Thank you to the municipal leaders and staff, first responders, volunteers, vendors, and performers for a great event.

Veena and I were happy to participate in the Interfaith Luncheon at the Muslim Association of Greater Pittsburgh. Our Commonwealth was founded on the principle of religious freedom, and it is an honor to represent the Muslim community of the North Hills.

Veena and I had a wonderful time at the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Taiwanese Association of America's picnic in Franklin Park. The Taiwanese community in the North Hills contributes to the vitality of our region. I am honored to be able to represent you in the State House.

I was happy to join Pittsburgh Tomorrow for their City on the Rise Celebration. As one of two naturalized citizens serving in elected office in Pennsylvania at the state or federal level, I will continue to advocate for our immigrant community and for welcoming more domestic and international migration to our region.

Election Day is approaching, and it is important that everyone can make their voice heard at the ballot box.

You can check your voter registration, find your polling place, or sign up to vote here by October 19, and request a mail-in or absentee ballot here by October 27.

Polls will be open on Tuesday, November 3 from 7 AM – 8 PM.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Innovations Challenge invites grades 9-12 learners to show their creativity and problem-solving skills to create solutions that improve safety in work zones – protecting workers and drivers.

Finalists will present their ideas to PennDOT leaders, with a cash prize awarded to the statewide winner.

All submissions are due by January 29. You can learn more about the competition here.

PRT has recently announced newly proposed changes to bus lines across our region, and there are several changes locally. Some of the most notable changes include:

• Increased frequency along McKnight Road.
• Increased frequency for routes connecting the McCandless Park and Ride to Oakland and Downtown.
• A new connection from Downtown to AHN Wexford.
• The discontinuation of the Mount Royal line and Thompson Run Flyer.
• New connections for Emsworth and Ben Avon to Bellevue, West View, and McKnight Road.

The Pennsylvania Resources Council has announced the 2026 Gene Capaldi Lens on Litter Photo Contest, which brings attention to litter problems in communities across Pennsylvania.
