We’re nearing the 60-day restricted period that will begin on September 4 and last until the November 3 General Election. If you aren’t opted in, I will be unable to keep you informed about important issues that affect all of us, including:

• Updates on legislation
• News and events in the district
• Government programs and services

As Labor Day approaches, please note that my office will close tomorrow, September 4, at noon and remain closed through September 7. We will resume normal hours on Tuesday, September 8.

Mark your calendar! My next shredding event to help you safely and securely dispose of sensitive documents will be on Saturday, September 12, at Ohio Township Community Park (325 Nicholson Rd., Sewickley).

We will be on site from 10 to 11:30 a.m. or until the truck is full. Each car may bring up to two boxes of paper for disposal.

We are continuing to see measles spread throughout Pennsylvania, with transmission in 10 additional counties in the Commonwealth this week. As the General Assembly’s only elected physician, I have been calling for our state and national leaders to put partisanship aside and act for the people of Pennsylvania in addressing this crisis.

I had the opportunity to discuss measles and the importance of vaccination with PCN. You can watch our full conversation in the video above.

I joined colleagues from the House and Senate who are also healthcare professionals to discuss how we can protect our families and communities from measles. You can find our full discussion in the above video or learn more from ABC27 here.

The MMR vaccine is the only safe and effective way to protect ourselves from measles and end this outbreak we are seeing across Pennsylvania. If you are not yet vaccinated and eligible, please contact your healthcare provider to do so.

Due to inaction by the federal government, over 190,000 Pennsylvanians had to drop their healthcare coverage after significant price increases.

It is crucial that we act on the state level to reduce the impact of these cuts, which is why I am a co-prime sponsor on H.B. 2550, legislation that will make it easier for small businesses to provide health insurance coverage.

As an ER Doc who continues to care for patients, I know how critical it is to make sure health care is affordable and accessible. To do that, we must make sure that insurers, hospitals, and clinicians are contracting on an equal basis.

I am asking colleagues to join me in sponsoring legislation to prevent unilateral changes in contract terms between insurers and healthcare facilities and professionals without mutual agreement. This is an issue of basic fairness to make sure that we maintain insurance networks and access to healthcare.

It was great to attend the ground-breaking ceremony for the restoration of the North Park Observation Tower. I was proud to stand with fellow community leaders and applaud them for making this worthy project possible. I even pitched in on the first coat of paint!

This tower, once renovated, will provide breathtaking views of North Park and be an asset to our community.

I recently toured VisAbility, a non-profit that helps the visually impaired reach their full potential. I was very impressed with the work they are doing and thanked them for the informative tour and opportunity to learn more about their efforts.

CeaseFirePA is conducting a survey of parents and caregivers to share your experiences and views related to the safety of your children at their school and after-school activities. The survey will help inform CeaseFirePA’s work to keep our students safe.

PRT has recently announced newly proposed changes to bus lines across our region, and there are several changes locally. Some of the most notable changes include:

• Increased frequency along McKnight Road.
• Increased frequency for routes connecting the McCandless Park and Ride to Oakland and Downtown.
• A new connection from Downtown to AHN Wexford.
• The discontinuation of the Mount Royal line and Thompson Run Flyer.
• New connections for Emsworth and Ben Avon to Bellevue, West View, and McKnight Road.

The Pennsylvania Resources Council has announced the 2026 Gene Capaldi Lens on Litter Photo Contest, which brings attention to litter problems in communities across Pennsylvania.

The deadline to apply is October 31. You can learn more and apply here.

Pittsburgh Tomorrow will be hosting Pittsburgh Homecoming, a weekend celebrating fun, culture, and citywide pride from September 18–20. The event aims to bring would-be Boomerangers back to Pittsburgh and increase the chances that they’ll move back to help build our region.

Out-of-town attendees will receive two free tickets to iconic local attractions and events, including the Pittsburgh Pirates, Carnegie International, Fallingwater, Phipps, the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival, the August Wilson Center, Children’s Museum, Pittsburgh Zoo, Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, the Warhol, and the Kamin Science Center. They’ll also receive free admission to a future-themed welcome party at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 18.
