Veena, my staff, and I greatly enjoyed hosting people from across our district at my annual community Diwali celebration at the Baierl Family YMCA in Franklin Park! Thank you to all for celebrating the Festival of Lights with us and for your generosity in bringing dry food items for North Hills Community Outreach’s food pantry.

Regulations on Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare
|
|
|
|
|
I joined Rep. Roman Kozak on a panel sponsored by the Department of Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine to discuss the regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) usage in healthcare. As the lead sponsor of HB 1925 to regulate the use of AI in healthcare in Pennsylvania, I am committed to engaging with all stakeholders on making sure we get this critical legislation right for all Pennsylvanians.

Honoring our Local Veterans – and Other District Updates
|

It was a privilege to honor veterans from Hampton Township at the Hampton Heroes Celebration sponsored by the Hampton Township School District. Thank you to all the veterans in our community for your service to our nation.
|
|
|
|
Veena and I were honored to participate in the McCandless Shining Star Gala, sponsored by the McCandless/Northern Allegheny Heritage and Cultural Center. It was my privilege to present recognition from my office and the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to the honorees whose dedicated service to our community is extraordinary.

|
Local Student Athletes See Major Success
|
|
|
|
|
Several local student sports teams have had very successful showings recently.
|
|
|
|
The Girls’ Volleyball team at Eden Christian Academy are the WPIAL Class 1A Champions – the first title in school history.
|
|
|
|
The Girls’ Volleyball team at Avonworth have also won their WPIAL Class 2A Championship, the first title in the school’s history.
|
|
|
|
Andrew Peigh from North Allegheny School District is a PIAA Medalist in cross country after placing 25th out of 252 runners.
|
|
|
|
Finally, the Girls’ Soccer team from North Allegheny won in double overtime, making them the WPIAL Class 4A Champions, the fourth title in school history.
Congratulations to all of the teams and players on your outstanding achievements!

The Pittsburgh Fire Fighters Foundation will be hosting their Coats for Kids giveaway at the Pittsburgh Fire Fighters Local No. 1 Union Hall (120 Flowers Ave) on Saturday, November 8 from 10 AM – 2 PM. Sizes for kids in grades K-5 will be available, and children must be present to receive the coats.

Franklin Park Trash Cleanup
|
|
|
|
|
The Allegheny Land Trust will be holding a trash cleanup of the Big Sewickley Creek Watershed at 1850 Big Sewickley Creek Road on November 8 at 10 AM. Franklin Park is located in the watershed, so this cleanup will directly support our local water quality. Those interested can register here.

Supporting Education for our Next Generation of Military Leaders
|
|
|
|
|
The Valley Forge Military College (VFMC) has announced two programs to provide scholarships to the next generation of military leaders. These include the Keystone Scholarship, which is a $26,000 scholarship to attend the VFMC for a civilian education, and the Military College Assistance Program, which provides a nearly cost-free education at VFMC or the PASSHE system in exchange for service in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
Both scholarships require recommendations from members of the state legislature. If you, or a student you know, are interested in these scholarships, please contact my office.

ACCAN to Hold Air Monitoring Community Meeting
|
|
|
|
|
Allegheny County Clean Air Now will be hosting an EPA-funded community air monitoring project meeting to discuss their preliminary findings. The event will be on Thursday, November 20 at 6 PM at the Community Presbyterian Church of Ben Avon (7501 Church Ave).

|
PA Farm Show Seeking National Anthem Singers
|
|
|
|
|
The Department of Agriculture is hosting their “Oh, Say, Can you Sing?” annual singing contest to decide which performers from across Pennsylvania will sing the National Anthem at the PA Farm Show in Harrisburg next year.
Contestants – groups and individuals of any age – are asked to email a YouTube link of themselves singing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” without instrumental accompaniment, to agcontests@pa.gov by November 24 at 11:59 PM.
Finalists will be posted on the Farm Show Facebook page for fan votes from November 26 – December 2. The winners will be announced on Facebook, then notified by email on when they will sing.
