Non-profits like NHCO are the backbone of addressing our community’s needs. I’m proud to engage with leaders from across the region in ways my colleagues and I can support NHCO’s important work.

Learning about Energy Development Across Pennsylvania

Last week, I joined a bipartisan group of fellow lawmakers from the House Energy Committee to tour the Cordia Bruce Mangione Steam Plant in Harrisburg and learn how we can harness all forms of energy in Pennsylvania. It’s always valuable to learn more about energy development and the economic benefits it can bring to our Commonwealth.

I also joined colleagues from the Allegheny County House Democratic Delegation on a tour of the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium to learn more about this important regional institution.

Cutting the Ribbon at Pittsburgh International Airport

I joined local and state leaders from across Pennsylvania to cut the ribbon on the new Pittsburgh International Airport landside terminal. This beautiful new front door to our region will help the world connect with our community, and I look forward to showing it off when it officially opens soon. Thank you to the airport leadership, staff, and the hardworking men and women of organized labor who made this day possible.

Local Students Place in PennDOT Design Contest

It was a pleasure to present House citations to Arya and Akshay Subash of Franklin Park for placing third in their division of the PennDOT Bus Safety Poster Contest. As repeat winners, they continue to highlight the importance of bus safety in our community and across the Commonwealth. Congratulations and thank you!

Recognizing our Outstanding Local Student Musicians
|
Eleven students from North Allegheny have qualified for the PMEA District 1 Honors Band out of over 600 who auditioned from districts across our region. They will perform with the PMEA Honors Band on November 23. You can read more about their accomplishment here.

Twenty-four students from North Allegheny were selected to participate in the PMEA Honors String Orchestra, which will perform at the PMEA Festival at Carson Middle School on November 16.

Hampton Boys’ Soccer Win Section Championship

The Hampton Boys’ Soccer team has won the Class 3A Section I Championship and will now advance to compete for the WPIAL title. Congratulations on an amazing season so far, and best of luck as you go for the championship!

Veterans Can Get Free Vaccines for Pets
|
Animal Friends will be supporting veterans and current service members by providing free vaccinations for their cats and dogs. They will be at Alco Parking Red Lot 7C, 630 Scotland Ave, Pittsburgh on October 30th from 10 AM – 3 PM.
Proof of military or veteran status will be required. No appointments are necessary. Microchips and treatment for fleas and ticks will also be available at extra cost.

Fish and Boat Commission Seeking Board Members

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Board of Commissioners is seeking candidates to serve and represent District 2, which includes Allegheny, Beaver, Washington, Greene, Armstrong, Indiana, Westmoreland, and Fayette counties.
The deadline to apply is November 7 at 5 p.m., and applicants should email a resume and cover letter to Derek Eberly, Director of the Governor’s Advisory Council for Hunting, Fishing and Conservation, at deeberly@pa.gov.
