Rep. Pisciottano praises new Path to Pennie program

PITTSBURGH, March 16 – State Rep. Nick Pisciottano, D-Allegheny, applauded the new Path to Pennie program – which adds a form on income tax returns for uninsured Pennsylvanians to enroll in affordable health care coverage – announced today by the state Revenue Department and Pennie, the state-based health insurance marketplace. “Uninsured Pennsylvanians will now be able to access health care by simply checking a box when filing their state taxes,” Pisciottano said. “I want to thank my colleague, state Representative Austin Davis, for spearheading this crucial initiative by introducing legislation to create an Easy Enrollment Option , a bill that I was proud to co-sponsor.” The new program creates a simple and straightforward way for tax filers to indicate that they, their spouse, and/or dependents do not have health coverage and are interested in learning more about the services provided by Pennie. Mobile carriers have begun shutting down their 3G networks to make room for more advanced network services, such as 5G. As a result, older cell phones will be unable to make or receive calls and texts, including calls to 911, or use data services. This will affect 3G mobile phones and certain older 4G mobile phones. Pisciottano: over $23K awarded to local first responders

DRAVOSBURG, Feb. 23 – State Rep. Nick Pisciottano, D-Allegheny, announced today that a $23,100 state grant has been awarded to the Dravosburg Volunteer Fire Department to help purchase new equipment. “Volunteer firefighters are some of the most selfless members of our community, donating large amounts of their time and energy and risking their safety to protect their fellow citizens,” Pisciottano said. “I’m extremely proud to have helped secure these funds for the Dravosburg Volunteer Fire Department, as well as the many other grants that have been secured for first responders in our area so far this year. WEST MIFFLIN, Feb. 11 – State Rep. Nick Pisciottano, D-Allegheny, announced today that nearly $240,000 in state grant funding has been awarded to 16 fire and EMS companies in the 38 th Legislative District. “We have some amazing first responders in our community and it’s important we make sure they have access to the resources they need to protect us,” Pisciottano said. “These funds, along with the $25 million for EMS companies that the House passed unanimously this week, will ensure our local heroes are adequately prepared to keep us safe this year.” Grants were awarded to the following local fire and EMS organizations: Baldwin Emergency Medical Services (Fire) - $15,000 Baldwin Emergency Medical Services (EMS) - $8,325 Baldwin Independent Fire Co. Rep. Pisciottano: $100,000 awarded to build local indoor athletic facility

BALDWIN, Feb. 9 – State Rep. Nick Pisciottano, D-Allegheny, announced today that the Greater Baldwin Whitehall Athletic Association has been awarded $100,000 through a state grant program to build a multi-use, indoor practice building. “This investment will benefit thousands of young athletes in our area,” Pisciottano said. “I’m very proud that this new building will create opportunities for local kids to develop important life skills through sports programs.” Pisciottano added that the GBWAA currently serves more than 1,500 children, ages 4-to-18, in the Baldwin-Whitehall area, primarily focusing on baseball and softball. Jesse J. Siefert, president of the GBWAA, specified that the new, indoor facility will also include spaces for “basketball and team building activities” year-round. Pisciottano secures $350,000 to upgrade local infrastructure

WEST MIFFLIN, Jan. 27 – State Rep. Nick Pisciottano, D-Allegheny, announced today that $350,000 has been awarded to fund multiple projects associated with local infrastructure. “I’m pleased to have played a role in bringing these vital funds to our district, as they will provide essential updates to our infrastructure,” Pisciottano said. “I’m especially enthusiastic about the improvements at West Mifflin Park, which the borough has identified as one of its top priorities.” The funded projects are: $200,000 to improve facilities, increase aesthetics, and replace existing play equipment at West Mifflin Park. $75,000 to demolish six blighted buildings in Port Vue. $75,000 to replace and upgrade 10 storm inlet grates in Liberty. The money comes from the Pennsylvania Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund, which funds community and economic development projects in Allegheny County through revenue generated from all casinos. The program provides grants for single-year and multi-year projects, including economic projects, infrastructure and community improvements, job training, public safety, public interest and administration costs. Pisciottano announces $50,000 to build local ATV park

GLASSPORT, Jan. 26 – State Rep. Nick Pisciottano, D-Allegheny, announced today that Glassport Borough has been awarded $50,000 in state grant funds to aid the construction of an ATV park. “I’m very excited to see new recreation opportunities in our community,” Pisciottano said. “This project will transform previously undeveloped land into an off-road vehicle park that I know local residents will enjoy for many years to come. When built, this facility will be unique in Western Pa. and a wonderful asset for Glassport and the Monongahela Valley communities.” Pisciottano added that the borough plans to use this grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development to construct a roadway, storm drainage, masonry building, and a parking area to provide access to the park. In November, the project was awarded an additional grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program. Read more

 

Pisciottano: $45,000 awarded to increase local school safety

WEST MIFFLIN, Jan. 21 – West Mifflin and South Allegheny school districts will both receive state grant funds to enhance student safety, state Rep. Nick Pisciottano, D-Allegheny, announced today. “Keeping our children safe is imperative, especially when they are under the watch of our public schools,” Pisciottano said. “The uptick in school violence we have witnessed in recent years is heartbreaking to think about, but it is a harsh reality that we need to be prepared for. These grant funds will go a long way in providing peace of mind for the students, teachers and staff at West Mifflin and South Allegheny.” The Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Office for Safe Schools awarded grants to local schools in the following amounts: $25,000 to West Mifflin School District for safety equipment. $20,000 to South Allegheny School District for safety programs. I am very proud to say I voted for the expansion of PACE and PACENET, which Gov. Tom Wolf recently signed into law. More than a quarter million seniors in our state rely on these essential programs to help pay for their prescription medicine.
