Rep. Pisciottano announces $4 million for Steel Center technical school
Grant to fund ADA updates, upgrade diesel lab

JEFFERSON HILLS, Dec. 14 – In a huge boost to area workforce development efforts, the Steel Center for Career and Technical Education will receive a $4 million state grant to fund infrastructure upgrades at the facility, state Rep. Nick Pisciottano, D-Allegheny, announced today alongside a bipartisan group of local and state officials at a press conference held at the school.
“This investment serves as a major catalyst for local job opportunities, as well as our regional economy overall,” said Pisciottano. “Providing public schools with proper resources is essential in preparing our next generation of workers. My sincerest thanks to everyone who came together and helped secure this grant for the Steel Center.”
Pisciottano specified that the Steel Center, which provides career and technical education to residents of 11 school districts in southern Allegheny County, plans to use the funds for the following:
- Complete replacement of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical infrastructure.
- Update ADA code compliances throughout the building.
- Renovate and expand the diesel technology mechanic training program lab.
- Improve various training and student services programs.
- Prepare spaces for future training programs not yet determined.
The funding is provided by the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which is administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.
