Pisciottano announces $710,000 in state funding to boost transportation and recreational projects

DRAVOSBURG, Nov. 22 – State Rep. Nick Pisciottano, D-Allegheny, announced today the Commonwealth Financing Authority has awarded more than $710,000 in grants to transportation and recreational projects in Glassport, South Park Township, West Mifflin and Baldwin.

Pisciottano said Glassport was awarded $300,000 through the CFA’s Multimodal Transportation Fund to remove and repave the brick roadway along Delaware Avenue from 6th Street to 9th Street. The project will also add 16 ADA ramps and pedestrian crosswalks at all intersections.

“The brick road along this stretch of Delaware Avenue has multiple depressions, creating an uneven surface for drivers and homeowners who use the route frequently,” Pisciottano said. “This project would help to provide a smoother street, while also making the area more accessible and safer for all pedestrians.”

Another Multimodal Transportation Fund grant in the amount of $200,000 was awarded to South Park Township to assist with the improvement of the intersection of Route 88 and Brownsville Road, which is frequently traveled by people in the 38th legislative district. The project includes widening Route 88 to add a left turning lane and increase sight distance, as well as the installation of a new energy efficient traffic signal and sidewalks along the roads.

Pisciottano said the CFA also awarded the following grants from its Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program:

  • $125,000 to Glassport to construct a recreational off-road vehicle park for all-terrain vehicles on an undeveloped parcel of land owned by the borough. The project would construct a roadway, storm drainage, masonry building and a parking area.

  • $35,000 to West Mifflin to build an amphitheater on a hillside within West Mifflin Park. Improvements would include the installation of a stage, electrical infrastructure, lighting and the creation of a step-style seating area in the hillside.

  • $50,000 to Baldwin to renovate the existing borough swimming pool and facility. Renovations will include an access ramp for swimmers, a new circulation pump, a new pool liner, a recessed gutter, supply line renovation, a zero-entry ramp and splash pad features.

“I’m thrilled this grant funding includes recreational opportunities that will enhance these communities,” Pisciottano said. “The projects are key destinations for residents but would also help to bring in folks from surrounding communities for events. For Baldwin, the funding is an opportunity to bring life back to a pool that is in dire need of improvements.”
