Make Sure You Have a Plan to Vote!

We are coming up on Election Day, where each of us can utilize our civic rights to make our voice heard and shape the future of our local community, state, and nation. With that right comes a lot of dates and information that are important to know so you can get to the ballot box and cast your vote, which I wanted to outline for you.

Whether you have registered to vote before, or are doing so for the first time, it is always important to check your registration before an election. You can register here by October 19 and check your registration status here.

Then comes actually casting your vote – which can be done in person or by mail. If you would like to vote by mail, you can request a ballot here by October 27 – and it must be received by the County by 8 PM on Election Day. Ballots can be returned through the mail, or at dropbox sites throughout Montgomery County, with one in our district at the Cheltenham Township Tax Office (8230 Old York Road, Elkins Park).

If you want to vote in person, that can be done on Tuesday, November 3 from 7 AM – 8 PM. You can find your polling place here by filling in your address.

It is critical that each and every one of us are able to cast our vote in less than a month’s time, so we can shape the future that each of us wants to see.

High Note

This week, the School District of Springfield Township cut the ribbon on their new middle school! This new facility is the result of construction over the last year and a half, and will provide our local students with new, state of the art learning spaces that will help support their needs.

I am proud to have partnered with state Sen. Art Haywood to secure grant funding that helped this building come to fruition, and I look forward to seeing the incredible work our students do in this new facility!

How I Voted

HB 2135: I voted YES on legislation requiring employers to provide reasonable accommodations for employees experiencing menopause and perimenopause, such as additional breaks, temperature-controlled workspaces, and temporary adjustments to job duties, unless doing so would cause undue hardship.

HB 1346: I voted YES on legislation requiring private insurers to cover hormone and non-hormonal therapies for menopause symptoms, as well as treatment for menopause caused by a hysterectomy, when recommended by a healthcare provider and supported by scientific evidence.

HB 507: I voted YES on legislation requiring testing of baby food manufactured in Pennsylvania for toxic heavy metals, including arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury, and requiring labels disclosing the levels found in testing.

HB 2702: I voted YES on legislation to eliminate the sunset provision for the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4), allowing it to continue collecting and sharing data on health care costs, quality, and hospital finances to support transparency and informed decision-making.

HB 2542: I voted YES on legislation to align Pennsylvania’s election procedures with the federal Electoral Count Reform Act by establishing deadlines for election certification and court decisions in election disputes, helping ensure presidential election results are certified and transmitted on time.

HB 1604: I voted YES on Fanta’s Law, legislation requiring law enforcement officers in certain counties to complete quarterly firearms training and offering additional real-world simulation training at least twice a year to better prepare officers for high-pressure situations.

HB 2657: I voted YES on legislation establishing consumer protections for kratom products, including age restrictions, labeling requirements, and limits on synthetic or adulterated products. The bill would also require retailers to register and prohibit advertising directed at children.
