The first day of fall is almost here, and while the autumn breeze might be starting, the chill will not slow down my team and I ahead of our upcoming events! In the next two weeks, we will be hosting three events to help you connect with state resources and learn more about the work I do for you here at home and in Harrisburg.
Coming up on Thursday from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. is our sixth annual Senior Fair, where we will have a wide variety of state, local and federal programs all in one place to ensure that seniors from across the 154th have the support they need. You can still RSVP, which can be done here.
Then, the following week, we will be hosting two town hall discussions so that I can hear what issues matter most to you to help guide my work in Harrisburg. I will be at the Jenkintown Elementary Gymnasium on Monday, September 28 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. to particularly discuss Jenkintown related matters.
Then, I’ll be at the Springfield Township Library on Thursday, October 1 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. to discuss environmental policy, and you can RSVP for it here.
Serving as your representative comes with a lot of things I need to do. These next two weeks, I will be doing some of the most important work: making sure that state government works for you, and hearing what matters to you so that meaningful changes can be made in Harrisburg to help all of us.

Ralph Morgan Park Bridge Closed Indefinitely

Update from Cheltenham Township:
Unfortunately, the pedestrian bridge between Ralph Morgan Park and the Jenkintown-Wyncote Station north lot is closed indefinitely after an inspection revealed structural issues.
We will update you as the situation progresses.

PennDOT will begin pipe replacement work on Washington Lane between Ashbourne Road and Rock Lane in Cheltenham, weather permitting.
A northbound lane will be closed 24 hours a day beginning Tuesday, September 15, through Tuesday, September 22.
Drivers traveling through the area should plan and allow extra time, as traffic backups and delays are possible.
Please slow down, drive carefully, and watch for construction workers in the area. We appreciate everyone’s patience while this work is underway.

Sewage Billing Delay Affecting Springfield Residents

I’ve heard from several constituents in Springfield Township who have questions and concerns about unexpected changes or increases in their BCWSA sewage bills.
After receiving these calls, my staff and I reached out directly to the Bucks County Water & Sewer Authority (BCWSA) to get some answers. BCWSA has confirmed that they are aware of the billing concerns.
According to BCWSA, some customers were charged only the base rate during the first two months after the launch of their new billing system. Usage charges that were not billed during those months were then added during the billing catch-up process, which may have resulted in a larger bill.
For customers affected by the catch-up billing, BCWSA has extended the deadline to pay those outstanding usage charges until November 30, 2026, with no penalties or interest during the extension period.
BCWSA has also acknowledged that its customer service line is experiencing a high volume of calls.
My staff and I are sharing this information because constituents brought these concerns to our attention, and I wanted to make sure residents had the information we were able to get directly from BCWSA.

Changes Coming to Medicaid in Pennsylvania
|
Big changes are coming to Pennsylvania’s Medicaid program beginning January 1st, 2027. Under a new federal law, some adults ages 19-64 will need to meet new work and community-engagement requirements, and some Medicaid recipients will have their eligibility reviewed every six months instead of annually.
If you receive Medicaid, it is important to make sure that DHS has your current address and contact information so you do not miss notices about your benefits. You can update your information through COMPASS and sign up for text and email alerts from DHS.
If you receive a notice from DHS or need help updating your information, my office can submit changes to DHS and communicate with the department on your behalf to help make sure your information is received and your case is properly updated. Email us at RepNelson@PAHouse.net or call 215-572-5210.

I’m hosting a community town hall for residents of Jenkintown Borough on Tuesday, September 29 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Jenkintown Elementary Gymnasium.

Join me for a conversation about local environmental priorities with the Environmental Advisory Councils of Cheltenham Township, Jenkintown Borough, and Springfield Township. PA House Legislative Fellowship Program
Accepting Spring 2027 Applications
|
Are you a college student interested in public service, government, law, or making a difference in Pennsylvania? The Pennsylvania House of Representatives Legislative Fellowship Program is now accepting applications for the Spring 2027 semester.
The Fellowship gives students the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in Pennsylvania state government while working in the Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg. Fellows are assigned to House standing committees or leadership offices, where they contribute to meaningful legislative work and gain valuable insight into the policymaking process.
In addition to being compensated for their work, Fellows may receive college credit and participate in a variety of professional and educational opportunities, including drafting and presenting legislation, meeting with public officials and legislative staff, and touring historic sites throughout the Commonwealth.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must:
- Be a college undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or law school student
- Be enrolled at a Pennsylvania college or university, or be a Pennsylvania resident attending an out-of-state institution
- Have a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Be pursuing any major or field of study
Applications are due October 1, 2026.
The program has prepared students for careers across Pennsylvania government, with former Fellows going on to work in the House and Senate, the Governor’s Office, and state agencies.

The General Election is coming up on November 3, and now is the time to make sure you are ready to cast your ballot. Whether you plan to vote in person or by mail, there are a few important deadlines to keep in mind.
If you are not yet registered to vote, October 19 is the last day to register for the General Election. If you prefer to vote by mail, October 27 is the deadline to request a mail-in or absentee ballot. Be sure to give yourself enough time to complete the process and return your ballot.
On Election Day, November 3, polls will be open from 7 AM to 8 PM. Take a moment now to make a plan for when and how you will vote.
For voter registration, mail-in ballot applications, and additional election information, visit vote.pa.gov. Make your voice heard this November and make a plan to vote!

Ballot Boxes Open Next Week
|
Secure ballot drop boxes are set to open September 21, 2026 (starting at noon) for the 2026 General Elections.
Montgomery County Board of Elections will operate multiple secure ballot drop boxes throughout the County to help voters meet the November 3, 2026 deadline. Residents can deposit mail-in ballots and absentee ballots at a secure ballot drop box as an alternative to returning their ballot by USPS mail.
Remember, you may only return your own ballot to a secure ballot drop box. Click here if you need a designated agent form.
Ballots are collected from the drop boxes daily by County Security and stored securely at the Voter Services office.

Now that he is recovered from his adventure, he is ready for his forever home.
Bucatini has blossomed into an amazing, sweet boy. He is gentle, loyal, affectionate and loves his handlers.
Bucatini has graduated from training at the rescue to in home training with Donna, their volunteer trainer. This was his first home visit for the day. These trips will help her gather accurate information to place Bucatini in the perfect home. She discovered that Bucatini is more amazing than they even imagined. Bucatini enjoys car rides, walks like a charm and enjoys the luxury of a home.
