In case you haven't heard, some truly historic events are kicking off right here in Philadelphia this weekend! It's shaping up to be an exciting and busy year for our region. As we prepare to celebrate America's 250th anniversary, Philadelphia will also welcome the FIFA World Cup and the MLB All-Star Game, bringing visitors from around the world to our backyard. And, here in Harrisburg, we're hopeful that a state budget will be finalized by the end of June.
Back here at home we would also like to wish all the graduates a big congratulations!
Additionally, please, please, please, check on your neighbors and friends because the next few days are supposed to be fairly warm, and we're supposed to have more storms tonight. If you do experience an outage, please click here for information from PECO.
It's a big summer for Pennsylvania, and we're looking forward to all that's ahead!

Your Guide to FIFA World Cup 2026 Transportation
|
Philadelphia will host six World Cup matches between June 14 and July 4, 2026, including a Round of 16 match on Independence Day. Residents traveling into the city should be aware of transportation changes that will be in place throughout the tournament.
SEPTA will provide additional service on match days, including extra Broad Street Line trains to NRG Station, expanded late-night Metro service, and additional Regional Rail trips following select matches. SEPTA fares will remain unchanged, and contactless payment is accepted throughout the system.
For those driving into Philadelphia, PennDOT's 511PA FIFA travel page offers real-time information on traffic conditions, road closures, parking options, transit services, and other transportation updates related to World Cup events. The site is designed to help visitors and residents navigate the region during the tournament and other major events taking place this summer.
Whether you plan to attend a match, visit the FIFA Fan Festival at Lemon Hill, or travel into Philadelphia for work or recreation, reviewing available transportation options in advance can help make your trip easier.
Learn more by visiting SEPTA's FIFA World Cup Rider Guide and PennDOT's 511PA FIFA Travel Information page.

This past week, our summer interns joined Outreach Coordinator Rashid for a literature drop throughout La Mott. Going door-to-door, the team shared information about state services, upcoming events, and resources available through our office while connecting directly with residents.
Community outreach is one of the best ways for us to stay accessible and ensure neighbors know where to turn when they need assistance. Thank you to our interns Zhanna and Isaiah, plus Rashid for helping strengthen those connections and bringing our office directly into the community.

- HB 2109: I voted yes on this legislation to expand housing flexibility and help make housing more affordable by allowing more people to share living arrangements while maintaining health and safety standards. It is a hard conversation locally and I have heard from our local governing partners their opposition to the bill. I have been the tax collector here in Cheltenham, and I have long fought for our folks to have every opportunity to afford the cost of living.
- HB 1678: I voted yes to create a new source of revenue from digital advertising that can be used to provide additional property tax relief for older Pennsylvanians. This is a step toward creating new revenue sources that will benefit older Pennsylvanians by make sure folks can stay in their homes.
- HB 2145: I voted yes to prohibit the intentional use of PFAS, or "forever chemicals," in certain consumer products, helping protect public health and the environment.

Working to Raise Wages and Strengthen Our Economy
|
It’s been nearly 20 years since the last time Pennsylvania saw a minimum wage increase. A child born around the same time would be halfway through college by now.
|
According to the US Department of Labor as of January 1, 2026, 30 states have a wage that is greater than the federal minimum wage of $7.25, and Pennsylvania is not one of them. But states such as Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Florida, Arkansas, Missouri, South Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Montana ALL have minimum wages that are higher than ours, some that are even close to double or more; like Florida, Nebraska and Missouri.
|
If you believe workers deserve a living wage or could benefit from higher pay, you can add your name to the petition and be part of this effort. The goal is to show broad, grassroots support for increasing the minimum wage across the Commonwealth.

#PASenate Republicans need to get to work & FINALLY #RaiseTheWage.

Office Closure notice - Next week we are closed on Friday, June 19th for Juneteenth. We will reopen on Monday for regular business hours at 9:30a.m.
For those who are unaware of the significance of the holiday:
Juneteenth is celebrated each year on June 19, honors the end of slavery in the United States and commemorates the day in 1865 when news of freedom finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas. This year marks the 161st anniversary of this historic event.
Recognized as a federal holiday since 2021, Juneteenth is a time to reflect on our nation's history, celebrate freedom, and honor the resilience and contributions of Black Americans. Communities across the country will come together through events, education, and celebration to mark this important day.

Expungement Clinic in TWO WEEKS!
|
I’m partnering with Congresswoman Madeleine Dean to host our Annual Expungement Clinic on June 27 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at her Glenside District Office.
This clinic is an opportunity for eligible residents to receive guidance on clearing their criminal records and taking a meaningful step forward. Legal support will be provided by Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania, who will be on site to help participants throughout the process.
To participate, individuals should bring their case information, including court records or minute orders, and must not be in violation, on parole, or on probation.
I strongly encourage anyone who may be eligible to call my office ahead of time to confirm eligibility and make sure you have the necessary documents. You can also sign up online at RepNelson.com.
Helping people move forward and access a second chance is an important part of building stronger, safer communities, and I’m proud to support this effort!

Cheltenham Avenue Corridor Study
|
Montgomery County, the City of Philadelphia, Cheltenham Township, and Springfield Township are partnering on a study of Cheltenham Avenue between Paper Mill Road and Ogontz Avenue.
The study is exploring ways to improve safety and accessibility for drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit riders, with a focus on addressing speeding, crashes, and gaps in walking and biking infrastructure.
The corridor study area spans Cheltenham Avenue from Paper Mill Road to the west and Ogontz Avenue to the east. The study will also specifically look at 16 key intersections across Springfield Township, Cheltenham Township, and the City of Philadelphia.
An open house was held May 28th in Springfield Township. Click here to see the presentation, documents, comments (you can comment on the website as well), and other relevant data related to the study.
