Kinkead celebrates $2.5 million for local infrastructure

State grants fund road improvements, sewer upgrades

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 22 – State Rep. Emily Kinkead today announced that more than $2.5 million in state grants has been approved for seven local infrastructure projects through the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

“These investments will have a meaningful impact on our communities by improving road safety, modernizing aging infrastructure, and strengthening our water and sewer systems,” Kinkead said. “My colleagues and I are proud to have secured these funds to help deliver the essential services our neighbors rely on every day.”

Kinkead said the funding was awarded as follows:

  • $500,000 to West View Borough to improve Perry Highway from Centre Avenue to Wentworth Avenue.
  • $300,000 to Bellevue Borough for improvements to Lincoln Avenue.
  • $102,000 to Avalon Borough to improve the intersection of New Brighton Road and Union Avenue.
  • $425,000 to Pittsburgh Water to replace 5,000 residential water meters with more accurate models.
  • $425,000 to Pittsburgh Water to install 500 leak monitors.
  • $408,684 to Bellevue Borough for stormwater improvements on North Jackson Avenue.
  • $350,000 to Avalon Borough for structural sewer repairs.

The first three grants were awarded through the Multimodal Transportation Fund, which is administered by the CFA through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. The program provides grants ranging from $100,000 to $3 million to promote economic development and ensure safe, reliable transportation systems. Eligible uses include the development, rehabilitation, and enhancement of transportation assets, as well as streetscape improvements, lighting, sidewalk enhancements, pedestrian safety, connectivity, and transit-oriented development.

The remaining grants were awarded through the Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program. This program allows the CFA to award grants to municipalities and municipal authorities for water, sewer, stormwater, and flood control projects with costs between $30,000 and $500,000. Funds may be used for the construction, improvement, expansion, rehabilitation, or repair of water supply systems, sanitary sewer systems, storm sewer systems, and flood control projects.
