Pa. House sends budget to Senate; Addressing masking, concealment in law enforcement operations

Dear Neighbor,

This summer, I’ve been working diligently alongside my colleagues – both Democrats and Republicans in the Pennsylvania House – to advance a state budget that supports all Pennsylvanians and funds the vital services that our communities depend on.

On July 14, the House passed a General Appropriations bill and sent it to the Senate. While it’s not a final product, it still lays a foundation to deliver critical investments in education, health and human services, infrastructure, economic growth, environmental protection and more.

The bill represents meaningful compromise – it trims nearly $1 billion from the governor’s original proposal while still funding the essential priorities that matter most to Pennsylvanians.

In a divided legislature, compromise is not just necessary – it’s the only path forward.

We’re taking our responsibility seriously because we know that families and communities across the Commonwealth are relying on us to get this done.

As your representative, I’m committed to being in Harrisburg every session day, doing everything I can to help get a full, responsible budget across the finish line – because Pennsylvanians deserve nothing less.

Sincerely,

Bill introduced to encourage employee-owned businesses

I’m proud to report that I’ve introduced legislation to establish the Office of Employee Ownership within the Department of Community and Economic Development, to help retiring business owners sell their business to employees.

The goal of the new office would be to provide educational, financial and technical assistance to existing employee-owned companies and those firms seeking to retain jobs by restructuring an existing business into an employee-owned enterprise.

By 2035, nearly 2.5 million American businesses owned by Baby Boomers will be looking to transfer the ownership of their companies. These businesses employ 25 million people. Converting these businesses to an employee-ownership model could be a viable solution to allow an owner to strategize their exit while keeping the company and the jobs in the community.

Keeping and growing Pennsylvania-based companies is paramount to the economic success of our Commonwealth. Through the expansion of employee-ownership enterprises, we can assist in creating an economic climate that is good for workers, good for business owners, and good for the host community.

Addressing the need for visibility among government officials

I will soon be introducing legislation with several colleagues that would restore trust and public safety in government operations by ensuring that government agents and law enforcement officers do not conceal their official identities or wear masks during what have become tragically routine raids on people’s homes and communities.

This legislation would ensure that the public is able to identify that someone is a government officer, strengthening the community's confidence in law enforcement and protecting officers and community members from those who would use obscurity to cause harm.
