Dear Neighbor,

I write you during a very busy time for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, as we are still negotiating a state budget that invests in our workforce, health care, housing, energy development, transportation and transit, public schools, and much more.

A budget is a financial blueprint for our priorities as a state, and it’s important that we strike the right balance in creating it. The new fiscal year started this month, but negotiators are reporting progress on many fronts and hope a deal will be in place in a matter of days.

If you have any questions or input about the state budget, please contact my office.

I’d also like to share that my office is partnering with Leveling the Playing Field, Inc. to host a Youth Sports Equipment Donation Drive for area athletes. You can donate quality pieces of sports equipment you have at our office, the Phoenixville Recreation Center, or the Phoenixville YMCA, and we’ll make sure that it gets good use!

Read on for more news, including about my bill to invest in technology and biotechnology jobs in Pennsylvania.

Sincerely,

2nd Annual Farmers’ Breakfast is July 30

I’m inviting all farmers from the 26th Legislative District to a breakfast with Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding and me at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 30 at Lundale Farm Barn, 2501 Pottstown, PA 19465.

We’ll meet to discuss issues facing farmers in Pennsylvania, hear the latest state news from Harrisburg, and answer your questions – all over a free breakfast!

Last year’s inaugural breakfast was wonderfully attended, and I gained so much perspective on the issues facing today’s farmers. I look forward to building on even more conversations this year.

Please RSVP for the breakfast here.

My bill investing in tech, biotech in Pa. advances from committee

I’m proud to report that my legislation to help grow biotech and technology startups in Pennsylvania advanced from the House Finance Committee.

House Bill 1129 would allow new and expanding biotech and tech companies to trade unused Net Operating Loss tax credits for private financing – ensuring critical, early-stage financial incubation for some of Pennsylvania’s most promising companies and the jobs they create.

By transforming tax credits into capital, we’re turning innovation into investment in Pennsylvania, and jobs into careers. The opportunity behind this legislation encourages our world-class tech and biotech companies to swing for the fences.

To remain competitive in new tech, Pennsylvania must cultivate businesses on the leading edge of development. Many tech companies need several infusions of startup funding before they reach maturity and can bring their innovations to the marketplace. This bill will give them more runway to do so.
