School transportation in PA needs studied; My bill passed in House

Dear Neighbor,

I’m proud to report that the Pennsylvania House of Representatives last week passed my bipartisan legislation to provide greater efficiency and clarity for funding school transportation across the state.

Over the past year, in a bipartisan manner, Representative Schlegel and I have spearheaded a work group with school transportation contractors, statewide associations representing school business, state officials and school district transportation directors from across the commonwealth with the common goal to modernize Pennsylvania’s school transportation laws.

House Bill 1326 would require that school districts report the number of students transported to public, nonpublic and charter schools, including the total costs for each school, to the state Department of Education. The data would be posted publicly online.

The bill would also bring state requirements for mileage reporting into the 21st century by allowing use of GPS software, which is easier and more accurate than manually tracking mileage.

You can read more here.

Sincerely,

House passes transit, road and bridge funding

Transit creates and supports jobs in every corner of the commonwealth and makes everyone’s commute a little shorter, smoother and safer. When we invest in transit, we are creating jobs and helping communities.

That’s why this week in Harrisburg I voted to invest in transit and fixing roads and bridges – without raising taxes. Now we need your help. Please contact the state Senate and let them know you want to keep PA moving. Send an email here.

2025-26 hunting licenses to go on sale June 23

Hunting and furtaker licenses for Pennsylvania’s 2025-26 seasons go on sale Monday, June 23, but there will be plenty of time for hunters to get them without waiting.

As in recent years, antlerless deer licenses will be available when general license sales open. But this year, all Pennsylvania residents are guaranteed to get an antlerless license for the Wildlife Management Unit (WMU) of their choice, so long as they buy it by 7 a.m. on Monday, July 14, the day license sales open to nonresidents.

That’s three full weeks for resident hunters to find a convenient time to buy and avoid waits.

A full list of prices can be found on HuntFish.PA by clicking on License Catalog under the Hunting tab.

New ‘Let Freedom Ring’ license plates available

Pennsylvania has launched its “Let Freedom Ring” license plate, celebrating Pennsylvania as the birthplace of American democracy and the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary in 2026.

Nearly 11,700 Pennsylvanians who signed up last year have already received theirs.

The new plates are now available to order through PennDOT. The plates support the state’s tourism efforts as part of PA’s Great American Getaway campaign and its broader economic development strategy.

Honoring Juneteenth

This week on June 19, we recognized Juneteenth. This day commemorates the end of slavery and the emancipation of enslaved peoples in Galveston, Texas in 1865, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s important that we not only remember our past but recommit to learning from it to make a more just society.

New online clemency application available

The Pennsylvania Board of Pardons has launched a fully online clemency application, making it easier for people seeking a second chance to access the process.

This initiative removes common barriers – like the need to print or mail documents – and is part of Pennsylvania’s broader commitment to justice reform and second chances.

To access the online application or learn more, visit the PA Board of Pardons website.

This is a significant step toward helping Pennsylvanians who have paid their dues move forward with dignity and opportunity.
