Dear Neighbor,

I wish you a meaningful and reflective Memorial Day weekend. As we gather with friends and family, let’s honor the memory of our brave military and civil service members who gave their lives in service to our country.

My office will be closed Friday and Monday to observe Memorial Day and the tributes across our communities. On Memorial Day, I’m reminded of these wise words:

“If words cannot repay the debt we owe these men, surely with our actions we must strive to keep faith with them and with the vision that led them to battle and to final sacrifice.”

   - President Ronald Reagan

One way you can honor the fallen is by donating to the Pennsylvania Veterans’ Memorial Trust Fund. The Pennsylvania Veterans’ Memorial, located at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, Lebanon County, stands in lasting tribute to those who served our state and nation in times of war and peace. This monument is nationally recognized as the largest veterans’ memorial located in any of the national cemeteries.

One hundred percent of trust fund donations go toward upkeep like landscaping, lighting and fountains, as well as needed maintenance for structural and cosmetic components throughout the memorial. Donations are tax-deductible.

Donations can be made to the Pennsylvania Veterans' Memorial Trust Fund online at www.donate.dmva.pa.gov or by sending a check made payable to the "Pennsylvania Veterans' Memorial Trust Fund” and mailed to: DMVA Office for Veterans Affairs, Bldg. 9-26, Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville, PA 17003-5002.

Sincerely,

St. Peter's Road rebuild moved up

The time frame for construction on the St. Peter's Road rebuild has been moved up – likely beginning this fall with hopeful completion next spring.

In the meantime, the portion of St. Peter's Road that needs blocked off is being extended, and that section of the road is closed to south-bound traffic beginning today, May 22.

Additional detour and other information can be found here. Thank you to everyone at PennDOT and beyond who has been working so hard on this project!

Meanwhile, in Harrisburg

Before I get to the bills we passed recently, I’d like to share a heartfelt shout-out to my cousin Abigail, who came with her fourth-grade class to visit me in the state Capitol.

We had a blast talking about state government and how laws are made. I can see great potential with our kids in PA!

My colleagues and I also passed important bipartisan bills aimed at improving our Pennsylvania.

We moved legislation to protect patients’ health and wallets by requiring health insurance policies to cover medically necessary diagnostic breast exams, including MRI or ultrasound, without patient cost sharing. We moved another bill to ensure that patients are informed by hospitals about financial assistance to avoid medical debt.

We passed legislation to establish the First-Time Homebuyer Savings Account Program and allow mortgage borrowers to buy down their interest rate to reduce their monthly payment.

We also moved an important bill that would raise pensions for veterans with service-connected blindness, paralysis or limb loss.

It’s now on the state Senate to concur in our bills.

Food drive continues

You can stop by our office between now and June 6 to donate non-perishable food items for the Chester County Food Bank.

(Our office is closed Friday and Monday for Memorial Day weekend.)

Free shredding event is June 7

My next paper shredding/e-waste recycling event is scheduled! If you have paper that needs to be securely destroyed and recycled, please save a date for June 7!

Date: Saturday, June 7

Time: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Place: Coventry Mall Parking Lot, near Dick’s Sporting Goods

We also are collecting food donations for the Chester County Food Bank. Federal cuts have made the food bank’s mission harder, but it remains just as important if not more.
