Fighting for You: Outcome of this week’s meeting with Veolia officials
|
|
|
We have a constitutional right as Pennsylvanians to clean water. It is simply unacceptable that Veolia’s customers in the Harrisburg region have had discolored water for months.
After weeks of advocating for our residents, Sen. Patty Kim and I met with top Veolia officials on Monday. They committed to taking several actions, including holding a series of public meetings for their customers in the Harrisburg region who have experienced discolored water in recent months.
While I am frustrated that this issue has dragged on for so long, I’m optimistic that our discussion with Veolia will result in a more proactive approach to our water discoloration.
As a reminder, customers experiencing discolored water should contact Veolia’s 24-hour customer service center at 888-299-8972 or cspa@veolia.com. Informal complaints can be filed through the PUC at www.puc.pa.gov/complaints/informal-complaints/.

Transit Budget Update
|
|
|
On Monday, for the fifth time, the PA House passed a bill that would provide funding for mass transit. As none of us loves congested roadways and we all need to get to work, to school, to run errands and more, this bill, HB 1788, would benefit us by making sure our mass transportation systems keep running and helping to repair and maintain our roads and bridges. In short, this bill is a necessary investment in our infrastructure that is needed to help grow our economy.
On Tuesday, the Senate responded with a bill that completely fails to provide the critical funding necessary to keep our transit systems running as we need them to:
- It FORCES transit systems across the state to decide between the safety of their riders and continuing to provide service.
- It INCREASES fares in rural, urban, and suburban communities every two years indefinitely.
- It STRIPS funding from transit and diverts it to roads and bridges in rural areas.
Senate Republicans have failed the people of Pennsylvania with this bill.
This is not leadership.

The hardworking folks with Feeding Pennsylvania came to talk with me this week about the challenges they're facing preventing Pennsylvanians from going hungry. When the federal cuts, federal regulations and the work requirements go into effect in September, many families are looking at going hungry. We hope to prevent these regulatory and requirement changes from becoming the reason Pennsylvanians can’t put food on the table.

Since its inception, the Girl Scouts have sought to develop young girls’ leadership skills. I don’t think I could find a better example of this than the young Harrisburg Girl Scouts who recently earned a Girl Scout Bronze Award for their community project at the Harrisburg Area Police Athletic League Park! They determined a community need through research –recess/outdoor play items available for any child to enjoy. The young girls then built the shed filled it with recess/outdoor play items. These impressive young girls also made a video about the project that informs viewers how they can support the project by donating toys.
Thank you for your commitment to our community! You are an inspiration to us all!
