Celebrating Speaker K. Leroy Irvis

Proud to celebrate the legacy of Speaker K. Leroy Irvis this week at the annual K. Leroy Irvis Day of Action. Working in the same Chamber as a pioneer for progress is a powerful reminder of the responsibility to live up to the legacy he left as the first Black Speaker of the PA House – and the first to hold the title of on a national level.

Put them Jawns Down

Part of tackling the gun violence crisis requires us to have hard but important conversations. We need to listen to each other with open hearts and open minds, most importantly, we need to listen to those most vulnerable to gun violence – our youth.

Was proud to help facilitate conversation at the Put Them Jawns Down Gun Violence Awareness community event where we heard from other elected officials, community leaders and youth from our communities.

Enjoyed a fun game of Bingo while spreading awareness and providing resources for mental health. If you or someone you know are looking for resources for mental health – click here.

Remember, text 988 for immediate help if you’re experiencing a mental health crisis. You’re worth it.

PTRR Program Deadline Extended

The application deadline for Pennsylvania’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program has been extended to Dec. 31, 2025.

Thanks to a historic expansion of the program passed by the General Assembly, more Pennsylvanians than ever -- including older adults, widows/widowers and people with disabilities -- are eligible for the rebates, with increased maximum payments of up to $1,000. In the last claim year, the program issued over 522,000 rebates totaling $319 million, including 106,000 first-time filers.

Contact my office today to apply or just stop in!

In 2013, the Independence Seaport Museum unveiled a new flagship exhibition, Tides of Freedom: The African Presence on the Delaware River. The museum is now amid a multi-year oral history project, Breaking Uncommon Ground on the Delaware River, which will expand upon the current exhibition. Focusing on the years 1950-2015, the stories collected will be a part of a lasting contribution to Philadelphia’s history.

The museum needs YOUR help! They are looking to speak with:

•   Black people who worked in labor unions along the Delaware River.

•   Black women who did work connected to the Delaware River.

•   Anyone who lost their home or business when the I-95 highway was built in Philadelphia.

If you know of anyone who would be interested and willing to share their stories, please contact Paul D. Best, director of the Oral History Project, at either (215) 315-3242 or pbest@phillyseaport.org. More information on the project can be found here: https://www.phillyseaport.org/breaking-uncommon-ground/.

If you have questions about this email or anything related to state government, please don't hesitate to contact my office.
