HARRISBURG, June 8 – State Rep. Nate Davidson, D-Cumberland/Dauphin, announced today that he has accepted an invitation from the Council of State Governments East to serve as co-chair of the U.S.-Canada Committee for the next two years.
“I am honored to be selected for this position,” Davidson said. “Canada has always been, and will continue to be, a great neighbor to us here in the United States. By working across borders, we can continue to strengthen the North Atlantic region’s economic vitality while advancing accessible transportation, agricultural cooperation, and so much more. I look forward to this new opportunity alongside my colleagues and am eager to strengthen our relationships with our neighbors in both the United States and Canada.”
The Council of State Governments has existed for more than 90 years and brings together state and provincial officials from across the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands to collaborate on solutions and prepare for future challenges.
The U.S.-Canada Committee promotes dialogue, information sharing, and collaboration among state and provincial elected officials, as well as their federal counterparts, to enhance cooperation on a variety of binational issues of mutual concern. These issues include, but are not limited to, agriculture, border crossings and management, economic competitiveness, energy, health, security, trade, and transportation.
The committee is composed of state and provincial legislators from the 13 Council of State Governments East member jurisdictions in the United States and five Eastern Canadian provinces: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Québec.
