October E-Newsletter

Dear Neighbor,

This month has been marked by important legislative action and wonderful community engagement. I was proud to announce the introduction of two new bills to better protect survivors of domestic violence, and it was great seeing so many of you at Pumpkinfest. I also want to provide an update on the pressing issue of the state budget and the impact its delay is having on our families.

PFA Presser

This month I was proud to announce the introduction of two bills aimed at protecting survivors of domestic violence. These two bills are designed to give our courts and law enforcement better tools to address repeat violations of Protection from Abuse (PFA) orders.

The first bill (H.B. 1908) establishes a tiered system for penalties, ensuring that repeat offenders face increasingly serious consequences, including higher fines and longer periods of imprisonment. The second bill (H.B. 1909) will grade a criminal offense one degree higher, up to a felony, if it is committed while violating a PFA order.

Thank you to the incredible speakers who joined us and whose work is vital in this fight: State Rep. Emily Kinkead, state Rep. Justin Fleming, YWCA Greater Harrisburg, Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland and Perry Counties, Silver Spring Township Police Department, and our incredibly brave survivor, Susan.

Pumpkinfest

My team and I had a great weekend at Pumpkinfest in East Penn! Congratulations to the organizers for a fantastic event. We love seeing so many neighbors out enjoying the fall festivities!

Budget/daycare rally

The time to pass a state budget was over more than 100 days ago. I voted to send multiple budgets over to the Senate Republicans, and because of their inaction, 503 children in my district no longer have access to childcare. The Senate needs to stop playing politics with our kids and hardworking families and teachers - get back to work and pass a budget, real futures depend on it.
