Benham: State awards $750K to Brentwood Borough

State Rep. Jessica Benham, D-Allegheny, today announced that the state has awarded $750,000 in funding to a project that will demolish an abandoned structure, remediate an environmental hazard, and reutilize a piece of property in Brentwood Borough.
“Any proactive steps taken to address blight, environmental and public safety concerns within the 36th District are always celebrated,” said Benham. “Today’s announcement is welcome news for the Brentwood borough administration, and the community as a whole.”
According to Benham, the state investment will fund the purchase of a contaminated property, demolition of the condemned structure and remediation of the site.
“This project will not only address many of the concerns the community has brought to my attention, but also provide the borough new administration space,” Benham said. “In addition to providing new office space for the administration, the new 11,000-square-foot, one-story building will also include a community room.”
The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program is a commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects. RACP projects are authorized in the Redevelopment Assistance section of a Capital Budget Itemization Act, have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues, or other measures of economic activity. RACP projects are state-funded projects that cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs. More information about the program is available here.
