Resolution adopted designating Oct. 5-11, 2025 as National Newspaper Week in Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG, Oct. 29 – State Rep. Ben Waxman’s resolution to designate Oct. 5-11, 2025, as National Newspaper week in Pennsylvania has been adopted by the House (158-45).

Waxman, D-Phila., worked in journalism and public relations before his time as a legislator. This resolution materialized through both his lived experiences in the field, and the current state of journalism, particularly in politics, today.

“The right to free speech and a free press, as proclaimed in the First Amendment, are treasured principles upon which Pennsylvania and America have thrived,” said Waxman. “Additionally, our commonwealth holds a prominent role in the history of both our nation and the newspaper industry through the Pennsylvania Gazette, published by founding father Benjamin Franklin, which helped to shape the political and cultural landscape of the American colonies.

“This resolution acknowledges the vital role played by the newspaper industry as a pillar of our democracy and congratulates the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association and its member affiliates for their role in encouraging an active citizenry and an informed public.”
