Snyder: Panel OKs measure that would extend Lemon Law to motorcycles

(Jun 24, 2015)

HARRISBURG , June 24 – State Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Greene/Fayette/Washington, said the House Consumer Affairs Committee today unanimously reported out her legislation that would extend the state’s Lemon Law protections to motorcycle buyers. " House Bill 1098 would widen the definition of a ‘new motor vehicle’ to include motorcycles,” said Snyder, a committee member and its Democratic secretary. “Pennsylvania’s Lemon Law protections then would apply to motorcycles.” Under Pennsylvania’s Lemon Law, manufacturers must replace, repurchase or compensate vehicle owners for defects that substantially impair its use, value or safety at no cost to the purchaser. The law applies when the new vehicle cannot be repaired by a manufacturer-authorized dealership after three reasonable attempts. The defect also must occur within one year after delivery, 12,000 miles of use, or the term of the manufacturer’s warranty. "Motorcycle owners deserve these reasonable protections,” Snyder said. “Purchases of new motorcycles involve significant investments by their owners, who often use them as a primary means of transportation.” House Bill 1098 now is ready for consideration by the full House.
