Smith-Wade-El: Nearly $824K secured for Lancaster City traffic signal improvements

LANCASTER, Dec. 30 – Smoother, safer traffic flow is coming to Lancaster thanks to nearly $824,000 in grant funding from the state Transportation Department, state Rep. Ismail Smith-Wade-El, D-Lancaster, announced today.

Smith-Wade-El said the funding awarded under the Green Light-Go Program will allow the city to improve traffic flow and safety.

The funding includes the following funding for the City of Lancaster:

  • $91,476.80 to study and remove unwarranted traffic-control signals.
  • $732,095.20 to modernize multiple intersections.

“With the new funding, the City of Lancaster will be able to modernize its traffic control signal system to maximize and keep traffic flowing smoothly,” Smith-Wade-El said. “The funding will help reduce collisions and ensure motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists stay as safe as possible.

“I want to thank PennDOT and our local partners for helping to bring this funding home.”

Green Light-Go is a reimbursement grant program, and applicants are required to provide a 20% local match. Grants may be used for operational improvements such as LED technology installation, traffic signal retiming, developing special-event plans and monitoring traffic signals, as well as upgrading traffic signals to the latest technologies.
